What's in my Bag

Hey y'all coming at you today with a new video! I know I haven't been quite as consistent with my video posting as I had hoped, but I'm hoping to post at least a few more before the summer is over!
Today I'm sharing one of my all time favorite videos to watch on Youtube: What's in my Bag!

I recently purchased a new bag from Nordstrom, and I thought I would share what all I carry in it!

Click the widget above to shop my purse and some similar ones.

Hope you guys enjoyed!
We're leaving for our trip to Canada later today and I'm super excited to share more about it once we get back!

On Trend: Espadrilles

There are always a ton of different shoe trends every summer, and this year in particular, I've seen a couple of big trends. One of my favorite trends is Espadrilles. Whether it is a pair of wedges or flats, they have become a staple in many's closets. They are also trending in a very wide market. you have your staples from Target or Nordstrom, but huge fashion houses like Chanel are also capitalizing on the trend! I wasn't always a huge fan of espadrilles, but it seems like there is something out there for everyone these days. There are so many different variations on this trend, from lace up sandals to typical flats to wedges, and literally everything in between!
I love this trend because it just screams summer and makes me want to drive to the beach and take some cute Instagrams (perks of the north shore, living 15 minutes from the beach!).

Here are some of my picks for this season's espadrilles:

Weekend Recap

Okay, so one of my goals for this weekend was to schedule posts for this week since we will be leaving for Canada on Wednesday. I didn't do that, but I'm hoping to get at least a couple more posts up this week! Today I thought I would start out my recapping what we did this weekend!

Friday: Road America
Yeti Sponsored Car!
Marco Andretti's Car being loaded into the truck

Dad getting Paul Tracy's autograph
My parents have been going to Road America since long before I was born. It's one of my dad's favorite places to visit, and this weekend there was an Indy Car race there. We drove up Friday morning to watch some Indy Car practice and other performance races. It was a beautiful day, literally perfect weather, and we even got to walk down pit lane and meet some famous faces including Ed Carpenter, James Hinchcliff, Paul Tracy, and also saw Alexander Rossi (this year's Indy 500 champion!) Marco Andretti, Graham Rahal, and Will Power. After spending a few hours in the sun (more on this later) we headed to our favorite dinner spot near Elkhart Lake: Schwarz's Supper Club. They serve the best steak and potatoes around.

When we finally got home that night, I got to see the full extent of my afternoon in the sun: a terrible sunburn. "Luckily" I only burnt my shoulders, part of my legs and the worst? The tops of my feet in a  very entertaining Chaco's pattern.

Saturday: Shopping
I spent most of my Saturday at the mall shopping. Literally every store is having an amazing sale, so it was hard to limit myself to just a few pieces for vacation. Look for some of the pieces in blogposts or in a video soon!

Another exciting development, they are building a Vineyard Vines store at Old Orchard mall!

Sunday: Driving Range
My brother and I started golf lessons last week, and myself, having never picked up a golf club before can use all the practice I can get. Our "homework" for this week was to each hit a bucket of balls at the driving range! Between the 90 degree heat, direct sunlight and my already sunburned self, I was not having it and did not do so well this time. It was fun though to go with my parents and see how good they are! Both of my parents know how to golf and used to go frequently when I was younger for work and for fun. I'm excited to finally be learning! (Also excited to buy new golf gear ;))

Wednesday Confessions

+ Why haven't I blogged the last two days?  I have already watched 19 episodes of Grey's Anatomy season 12, and it only came out on Netflix Saturday. I honestly think it is one of my favorite seasons! Meredith's hair... on point, as usual.

+ I bought another tote bag this week. Let me just say, however, that I haven't purchased a purse for myself in years, although my dad did have a friend pick up some purses for me when he was overseas this year. I got this tote from Nordstrom on sale and love it! I will probably film a "what's in my purse" video that will go up this weekend!

+ I've been working out more in the last week than I have the whole rest of the year. I've started going to classes and have been sore for 10 days. We're going to Canada next week for a family party and since they live on a lake, I need to look good!

+ Going along with the working out, I've purchased quite a few pairs of leggings this week as well. My mom works PT at Old Navy and picked up a couple of pairs of yoga capris, and I also picked up a couple of pairs from the Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale. I am obsessed with this pair, I can't wait to wear them to spin class!

+Okay, since we're going on vacay soon, I admit, I've gone a bit overboard on the shopping, but this is the last thing (for now). I purchased this pair of cowboy boots I've been lusting after for a while and am so excited to wear them next week! Tecovas is a relatively new brand, but they sell really high quality boots at reasonable prices. Sign me up! I can't wait for them to come in the mail. I can do a full post about them once I've worn them a while.

+My skin is breaking out like no other and I'm not digging it. I think the culprit is my face moisturizer, so I'm in desperate need of a new one. If anyone has recommendations, please comment down below or e-mail me!

Saturday Shops: Last Minute Father's Day Gifts

It wouldn't be a holiday without me posting a last minute gift guide now would it? I put together this little widget of some really great and reasonably price gifts for Dad! I'm sure he wouldn't mind prolonging the love and getting his gift later in the week ;)

Little hint to my dad: your gift is in this widget somewhere!

I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend and if you're around the North Shore, enjoy this amazing weather!

Friday 5

Linking up!

1. Athletic Slides: I tweeted about these the other day, but I've been obsessed with these black and white slides my mom got for my brother but they didn't fit him, so I snatched them. They are so comfortable and I especially love the black and white because they match everything. Slides are super "in" right now, and I'm obsessed with mine. I wore them a ton during my dance recital last weekend, and to my brothers hockey games.

2. Caprese Pasta Salad: I made this pasta salad for my brother to bring to an end-of-school party and it was super delicious. It's light and fresh and a little different from your typical pasta salad. Be sure to pin it for all your summer parties!

3. Fitness Classes: Monday I signed up for a 30 day unlimited class pass at my local Park District and I'm loving it so far! I've been to a strength class, a cardio/strength/core class, and a spin class so far and can't wait to try out more. Since Shawn is finally out of school, I will be working less and able to go to more classes during the day! A lot of my friends have passes too, so it will be fun to go try classes out with them.

4. Free Weekend: Last weekend was filled with birthdays, hockey championships, dance recitals, and two grad parties... needless to say it wasn't much a of a break. I'm super excited to have this weekend completely free to catch up on blogging, work on an online class I'm taking, and try some more fitness classes! The weather is supposed to be beautiful too, so hopefully I can spend some time outside.

5. Golf Lessons: Shawn and I are starting golf lessons next week as part of my parents ploy to get us out of the house this summer. I'm super excited because I've always wanted to learn how to golf, and we have a ton of beautiful courses on the North Shore. Okay, and maybe because of the cute outfits too...

I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!

Day in my Life - May 2016

Since getting home from school over a month ago, I've settled into somewhat of a daily routine. Every day is different, but each day usually has a combination of the same things. The day I'm outlining here was especially packed with all of the things that usually go on every week!

6:40am
Wake up and make sure my brother is awake.

7:05am
Drive my brother to Band/School. My mom likes to leave for work around 7, so if I drive my brother to school, it helps her out a lot!

7:20am
Check social media and make sure the day's blog post went up. Schedule social media posts for the blog for while I'm at work.

7:50am
Jump in shower.

8:15am
Brew coffee and eat something. My breakfasts usually aren't anything to write home about, usually something really quick.

8:30am
Get dressed and do my makeup. You can watch my recent makeup routine here!

8:45am
Get in the car and order my Starbucks with the app. My favorite? A Venti non-fat triple shot cinnamon dolce latte with only 2 pumps syrup, no whip. High maintenance?! Who me?!

8:50am
Pick up Starbucks and head to work.

9:15am-1pm
Work work work work work work
I've been helping out at my dad's work this summer up in the office working on files answering phones, pretty much anything anyone needs help with!

1pm-2pm
Grab lunch at home or on the go. My favorites are Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A, but usually I don't have time for Chick-Fil-A since it's pretty far from work.

2:30pm-3:30pm
Weekly appointment
I try and go to my social worker every week to work on some medical anxiety I have left over from last summer. I'm pretty open about going and think that it's a really great resource, especially since insurance covers it!

4-5pm
2-3 mile run
I've been trying to exercise more, so recently I've been driving to one of my favorite neighborhoods and running for 20-30 minutes just to get some fresh air.

5-6pm
Shower

6-7:30pm
Mani Pedi with Mom
My mom and I have been getting no-chip manicures this summer every couple of weeks, and on this particular Friday we were due for a refresh and decided to treat ourselves to some pedicures too! I wish I got a pedicure after every time I ran...

8-11pm
Hang out with friends or family.
This particular Friday, I had plans with a couple of friends from high school to try out the Shake Shack at Old Orchard Mall and we ended up getting ice cream afterwards! I usually either have plans with friends or hang out with my family on Friday nights.

11pm
Get ready for bed
Read, work on the blog, Netflix.
Usually I'm pretty tired, especially after a long week, so I'll get ready for bed, and work a little bit on my blog either editing that weekend's video, or working on photos. Sometimes I watch a little bit of Netflix, but usually I'm too tired.

12pm
Guided Meditation & go to sleep!
Midnight is a pretty early bedtime for me. Historically, I am up until 3 or 4 in the summer, but having to be up by 8 puts a damper on that. I try and do a 20-30 minute long guided meditation from Youtube before going to sleep. It's something that my social worker thinks will really help with anxiety!

Since my brother is now on summer break and I will be starting my summer work schedule, I will be sure to post an updated routine! I will also try to film a morning routine to go up on Youtube sometime in the next few weeks! Make sure you're subscribed to get my videos straight to your subscription box!

Comfy and Casual

If there is one thing I love in the summer, it's finding comfortable but still cute outfits to wear when it's hot out. Chicago weather seems to always get the extremes of every season. We get over 100 every summer and below 0 on the reg!
It can be super hard to find the perfect pair of casual shorts. I hate it when shorts are too tight or aren't stretchy enough. At first when the "boyfriend jeans" trend came about, I was skeptical. I feel like my body type/ the way my body is proportioned isn't particularly meant for the boyfriend fit, but I found these shorts from Old Navy and love them! I love how they are slightly distressed and the wash is a great color for summer! I may add a couple of distressed patches to the back pockets because I really like the look of that, but they are pretty perfect otherwise. They have become my go-to shorts for everyday! I also appreciate how affordable they are. A lot of shorts can be pretty expensive, but these come in at under $30 and  are usually on sale.
As for the rest of my outfit, my top is super comfortable and breathable (see split open back!) which is perfect for summer. I'm wearing my favorite black sandals for lounging around, and using my new favorite tote.

Friday 5

I can't believe it's already Friday! This week has gone by in such a blur, I can hardly tell what day it is. We'll be celebrating my cousins RC and SA's graduations from 8th grade this weekend which should be fun, and I'm prepping to perform in a graduate number in a dance show this weekend. Shawn also has another hockey tournament game tomorrow, so it should prove to be an exciting weekend!

1. May Favorites: I'm a little late to the bandwagon on this, but I finally was able to film my May/Current favorites to share with y'all! I love these videos because I feel like it gets across my personality a lot more than just my writing.

2. BooHoo.com: BooHoo is one of my favorite sites to shop for trendy pieces because the prices are so good, and today they're offering 50% off all blouses and dresses!

Here are some of my picks which will hopefully be making their way to my closet soon!

(I guess I'm really liking the off the shoulder trend!)

3. Revisiting Recipes: I made these no bake energy bites (which I mentioned in my video!) for the first time in a while this week, and I also made some snickerdoodle blondies which is one of my favorite tried and true Pinterest desserts
Pin me for later!
4. Weather: Would it be a week on North Shore Proper without me talking about the weather? The weather has been crazy here in Chicago, which is pretty typical for early summer. It thunderstormed like crazy last night, was really chilly Wednesday, and is going to be 90F today! have you been experiencing crazy weather like this too?

5. Snapchat Update: Have you noticed the new Snapchat update? It's hard not to! I'm not crazy about all the new boxes and sections in the "Discover" / Story area. It's already pretty busy, so adding all of those adds makes my eyes hurt a little. I'm curious, what do you think of the update?

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Easy Dinner / Appetizer Recipe

This is seriously one of the easiest dinners I've made! You only need a few ingredients, and it's sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Here is what you need:

2 cans of Pilsbury crescent sheets
1/2 - 3/4 lb thinly sliced deli ham
12 slices Swiss cheese

for the dressing:
1 stick butter melted
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup honey mustard dressing
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

1. Preheat oven to 375 F
2. Roll out the dough and lay slices of ham across entire sheet. Repeat with Swiss cheese. (do this for both sheets of dough)
3. Roll up sheets like you're making cinnamon rolls, and cut into 1 inch wide rolls. Place in a well greased pan (I used a 10x14 Corningware)
4. To make dressing, melt butter and add brown sugar, honey mustard dressing, and poppy seeds.
5.  Pour dressing over the rolls and bake for 20-30 minutes. (Depends on your oven and how thick the rolls are)

Makes 16 rolls

To make more appetizer sized rolls, cut your pieces of crescent dough in half so that they are shorter, that way, the rolls are smaller!

Enjoy!

Adapted from this recipe.

Casual Striped Dress

Maybe it's working in a restaurant that makes me think I need to buy 5000 dresses every summer, or maybe that's normal, I don't know. Either way, this dress is seriously the best. Black and white stripes are always in style, and it comes in even more colors! It's super soft, and it's a great length. I find that a lot of these swing style dresses tend to be too short on me, so I was super excited when this came just above my knee (I'm 5'5" for reference). I also wore this dress to the art institute last week with a blue button down and wrapped it around my waist when we went outside, it looked super cute and comfortable. I paired this dress with converse because it's pretty casual, but also looks great with black sandals or white Jacks and your hair pulled back in a low bun!

Special thanks to master-photographer Shawn for taking this pictures, and Whiskers for cooperating for once! I'll cherish these pictures with him forever!

A Letter to the Graduates

Dear Graduates,
I am so jealous of you! Heading into a new chapter in your life is simultaneously the most exciting and scariest feeling ever. Whether you're heading into High School, or College, there is so much in store for you in the next four years.
The biggest piece of advice I can give to you to make this next stage of your life "easier" is to take everything in stride. Don't let anything set you back. Learn from every mistake you make, AND trust me, you'll make A LOT. Bask in the glow of your successes, but don't let it get to your head. There are so many people in your life right now that want you to succeed, whether it be your parents, friends, teachers or whomever: take advantage of it! They may be coming across as naggy or nosy, but take advantage of this time where everyone wants to help and everyone wants you to succeed.
Over the next four years, you'll make new best friends, and lose old ones. Letting go of decade long relationships can be hard, but if it's meant to be, you'll find your way back to them eventually. Remember, everyone will be going through different things and handling this new environment differently, so it may be hard to see where people's actions are coming from right now, but in the long run, hopefully it will make sense.
School will be hard. In middle school, they told us that everyday. I didn't believe them. I got to high school and rode the struggle bus from day 1 all the way to graduation. Ask for help before you need it, and if someone offers it to you, always say yes. Use your failures as a learning experience and never make the same mistake twice. Pay attention in class (especially if you are allowed laptops) and participate. Participation grades are still a thing in college.
High School was quite an experience, and I would definitely go back and change certain things, but it was such a fun four years.
I'm only one quarter of the way through college so far, but I feel like I've already learned a lot about myself and the way people work. I hope that in these next three years, I'm better at taking my own advice and always move forward.

Sincerely,
Jordan

Friday 5

1. Chicago:  I think I was in downtown Chicago more this week than in the last 2 years! Monday my family and I went down to enjoy the beautiful weather and the day off work. It was such a gorgeous day, Millennium park was nothing but picturesque! Yesterday a group of my friends and I went to The Art Institute for the afternoon and had so much fun. It was another perfect day, and despite having a bit of a disaster getting there (think delayed train and switching cars twice), we really enjoyed a quiet afternoon.

My favorite title of the day:
Young Peasant Having her Coffee

2. Outfit Posts: I have had so much fun this last week playing with my new camera and creating good content for the blog! I plan on posting a video tomorrow (time permitting) but I'm having a blast photographing fun outfits with my brother Shawn. He literally just picked up the camera and started taking them! All of the outfit photos from this week and for next week were taken by him. Huge thanks <3

3. National Donut Day: Hop on over to your local Dunkin Donuts, because with every drink purchase, you get a free donut! Who doesn't love starting out their friday with coffee and a free donut? It sure made my morning better today. My donut of choice? The chocolate frosted cake - I'm boring, I know.

4. Stan Smiths:  I've been wearing my converse so much recently, especially with all of this walking around in the city, so I think  that another pair of "cute" sneakers are in order. I love the look of the green and white Adidas Stan Smith's, but I also love classic black and white pairs!  Comment down below which is your favorite!

5. Hockey: Although the Chicago Blackhawks were *sadly* knocked out of the Stanley Cup in the first round, Shawn's hockey playoffs (for spring/summer league) start tomorrow, so your thoughts and well wished are greatly appreciated! We were watching old hockey clips of Shawn when he was a goalie last night that we found on an old SD card and they were so funny and cute, a great way to start off the weekend!

I hope everyone has a nice and relaxing weekend!

Green Oversized Gingham

If there is one thing I love, it's a good piece of gingham, and oversized is one of my favorite variations of the print! I especially love this pastel green! I paired this with my favorite white Jack Rogers and new favorite sunglasses from Country Club Prep. I wore this outfit to work last week and loved how comfy and easy it was. The top of the dress also fits really comfortably for me, and there is a smocked section which makes the fit nice and snug!

(E-mail me for an exclusive 20% off my sunglasses!)

Special thanks to my brother for helping me with these pictures! They were taken on my DSLR so I hope you all like the quality!
