Lilly Pulitzer Agendas

It's no secret that I'm a serial Lilly Pulitzer Agenda user. This past year, I did go with Kate Spade, but I can't help but miss my classic Lilly patterns!

I used Lilly Planners for 3 years of High School, and loved them! I've posted about them before, and made a video about my organization last summer!
They just released the patterns for next year, and I'm having a tough time deciding which one i like the best!

I honestly can't pick a favorite right now, but I think my top three are Island Time, Exotic Garden, and Ocean Jewels! Okay, and Southern Charm.

Which one is your favorite?

What I learned Freshman Year of College

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I cannot believe I'm already finished with my Freshman year of college. It absolutely flew by, much faster than any other school year. I feel like I learned a lot from my freshman year which you can read a little bit about here, but as I've at home more and more, I'm realizing more things that I've learned.

1: Wake up earlier than you need to. In High School, I used to waste away my weekends by sleeping in until 12 or 1 in the afternoon. As awesome as it was to "catch up" on sleep from the week, as I was certainly more sleep deprived in high school, I wasted half of my day doing nothing! In college, especially most of my second semester, I woke up by 9am every day, and that has definitely made me more of a morning person this summer. Waking up a little bit earlier than you need to, or just plain "early" (like 8/9 on the weekends) gives you time to enjoy your day and you can make time to go to Starbucks, take some extra time getting ready, or catch up on work without wasting any daytime! This was definitely a slow transition for me, but the fact that the closest dining hall stopped serving breakfast at 9:30am gave me a lot of motivation during the week on days that I didn't have class until 1pm.

2: Try different study techniques until you figure out what works for you.  In college, the way your classes are structure, or your professors teach can vary across the board, so trying different ways of studying for each class until you find one that works for you is super important. For example, taking notes out of the textbook may work for your American Government class, but not necessarily for Environmental Science! (Liberal Arts probs) I figured this out pretty late in high school, but knowing it has helped me out a ton in college so far!

3: Be friendly to everyone at the beginning of the school year. This one was tough for me. As much as I hate to say it, I think I have a case of RBF and am not the friendliest person alive. Past and present social anxiety has definitely played a role in this, but jumping into a school 300 miles from where I live, knowing absolutely no one was hard. Bellarmine did an awesome job of getting us acclimated and introducing students to each other, but I wish I had been more eager and friendly. This time of year (orientation) is prime buddy making time. You obviously won't be best friends with everyone at the end of the year, but it's great to feel like you know at least a couple dozen people on campus within those first few weeks.

I plan on writing another post like this within the coming weeks, but for the mean time I hope you enjoyed it! If you know anyone entering their freshman year of college this fall, be sure to share this post, and your  knowledge with them!

Memorial Day Outfit

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Although it is nice to have a three day weekend, it's important to remember the reason we have this weekend. Men and Women have served our country and given their lives to keep us safe, and they deserve more than just a day of thanks.

Today I'm sharing a perfect outfit for today! It's easy to throw on in the morning for a parade, and is also great for a barbecue or picnic. It's also really easy to recreate with pieces you probably have in your closet. I recently picked up these shorts from Old Navy, and they are still on sale! Be sure to check out their site for a ton of cute summer pieces. I also wore my white Jacks in this look, perfect for the unofficial start summer!

(e-mail me for 20% off of the sunglasses!)

I didn't have a bag with this look, but shop some perfect ones here:

Friday 5

1. These Sandals: While I was downtown on Saturday, my wedges were uncharacteristically uncomfortable. So after our lunch, Jessica lead me to Water Tower place to find a pair of cheap shoes to wear the rest of the day. I wasn't about to whine and ruin our whole afternoon! these are so cute and comfortable and just my style! I've worn them a lot already since I got them, since they're a lot easier to throw on than my Chacos. If I haven't already convinced you enough, they were $12.

2. 3-Day Weekend:  I can't believe it is already Memorial Day Weekend! I'm super happy to have Monday off from both jobs and spend time with my Fam! I'm working at the Restaurant a couple of days, but I just take that as an excuse to wear some of my new dresses I've picked up. It is important to remember the reason for the holiday and thank our veterans for serving. Freedom is not free.

3. New Camera: My DSLR is coming in the mail today and I am so excited! I plan to film this weekend's video on it, but bear with me if I can't figure it out! If anyone has any great tips or videos to watch that would help a beginner, please let me know! Comment them down below, e-mail, or tweet me: @NorthShoreBlog.

4. Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale: Nordstrom has kicked off one of their half-yearly sales this week, and there are so many cute pairs of sandals perfect for the summer! Check them out here:

5. What Makes a Family: I love this video from Buzzfeed! I think it's super important that we take steps to recognize what makes a family!

Mozzarella Pesto Chicken

A couple of months back, my aunt and I went to Molly Malone's on Bardstown Rd in Louisville for dinner, and I had a delicious chicken dish. It was chicken covered with pesto with melted mozzarella cheese and it was so good! I'm a big fan of simple chicken dishes, especially those that you can just throw in the oven and wait! I've been pt in charge of dinners a couple of nights a week, and when I was in the grocery store last week, this popped in to my head! I made it again this week, and thought I would share it with you!

This is seriously so simple!
Here is what you need:
3 chicken breasts (raw or frozen both work!)
1 8 oz jar of Pesto (or make your own if you're really fancy)
6 slices of mozzarella cheese
1 pound red potatoes
Olive Oil and seasoning salt to taste

1. Preheat oven (I did 375 for frozen chicken) and line a baking sheet with aluminium foil
2. Cut potatoes into even pieces and toss in olive oil and seasoning salt. Place on both end of the baking sheet.
3. On baking sheet, cover your chicken breasts in pesto. I used about one quarter cup per piece of chicken.
4. Cover each piece of chicken with 1-2 slices of mozzarella cheese (I ran out when I was making it this week, so my photos show less)
5. Bake for 40-50. Make sure your chicken is 170 before eating!

There you have it, an easy, inexpensive meal with tons of flavor!

My Biggest Struggle

Your freshman year of college is something that no matter how much advice you get, or the number of AP classes you take in high school, you still aren't quite prepared. Trust me, I got my fair share of advice from pretty much every outlet, and took a handful of AP classes, but college is going to be different for everyone no matter what!

In Middle school, I was always a straight A student, an A- or a B+ nearly sending me over the edge the few times I received them, but when I got to High School, I was in over my head. I was chosen for a program that focused on History, Foreign Language, and English, and was struggling to stay afloat. My A's turned to B's and quickly then to C's. I had never had to work hard to succeed, so High School was kicking my butt. I eventually made it through with a slightly above average GPA thanks to the Honors grade scale, and got in to all of the Universities I applied to.
After choosing Bellarmine University, I was worried I would really struggle, however, after getting through my first semester with grades I could have only dreamed of, I was elated. Bellarmine is looking more and more like the perfect school for me every day.

Although I succeeded first semester, and again second semester, I still struggled with one thing. That one thing is possibly one of the most important in my academic career: Self-Discipline.
I'm a serial reward-before person. I always wait until the last minute to complete assignments, and don't always turn in work of the caliber I expect of myself. I'll watch 4 hours of Netflix before opening my backpack, and then 2 more once I've began my homework. Heck, all of my stuff from school is still sitting in our living room and I've been home for 2 weeks!
I'm a very obsession oriented person. I'm a perfect binge-watcher case, and if you've been following North Shore Proper for a while, you probably notice waves and cycles in my posting. For example, I'll post six posts in one week, and then one the next. I become obsessed with one thing for a few days or weeks, and then let it quickly drop off my radar for months. I'm all or nothing, pedal to the metal, or MIA.

This is very problematic when it comes to completing school work. I'm currently mulling over the decision of whether or not I want to go to law school, and if you know anything about it (if not, read One L by Scott Turow, it's FANTASTIC) you know self-discipline is essentially the most important skill to posses. I worry so much about whether or not I will be able to succeed in Law School simply because of my lack of self-motivation and discipline.

My goal for these next three years of undergrad is to learn the skill of self-discipline. I think that as long as I stay busy, and take classes that I enjoy, I will be able to successfully get through it! I think that being more self-disciplined will help me in so many aspects of my life. I will get more sleep, eat healthier, and work out more. Read more books I enjoy, turn in papers I'm really  proud of, and be a happier person all around. If you have any tips for working on improving your self-discipline, please let me know by e-mailing me, or commenting down below!

Having a Good Morning

You know how some days, you just start off the day on the right foot? Those are my favorites! I feel like no matter what might go wrong, I'm still in a good mood. Now, this doesn't happen everyday of course, but when they do, I always have such a good productive day! Here are my tips for having a good morning:

1: Don't hit snooze. This tip comes from my mom, and I am definitely guilty of hitting snooze every day of the year. but I do find that when I wake up around the time I wanted, the earlier the better, that I feel more productive.

2: Don't immediately jump on social media. I'm guilty of this one too.I always lay in bed and watch the Snapchat stories from the night before as soon as I wake up, but getting up and out of bed first and maybe doing this while brewing your coffee is a great way to be productive while getting your social media fix!

3: Drink a hot cup of coffee. I find that a piping hot cup of coffee immediately makes me feel more productive and like I'm off to a good start!

4: Open your blinds and windows. At school, my roommate and I kept our windows "open" (they only opened a couple of inches in our dorm) for about 6 months of the school year. It was so nice to have a fresh breeze on my face when I woke up, and the cooler air helps you feel more awake! I especially love to open the blinds when it's raining because that is my favorite type of weather!

5: Make a to-do list. Making a to-do list can set the tone for your day, and ensure you don't forget about any tasks you need to accomplish! Sit down with a notebook, your coffee, and planner and write out everything you need to get done. throw it in your bag and carry it with you all day. You can make it in the notes section of your phone, or I think it feels great to hand write it and physically cross something off once you've accomplished it!
Check out some adorable notebooks below:

This one matches my agenda!

Week in Review

What a week! I can't believe it's been a week since I posted on here! I really dislike when I leave the blog neglected like that for a while, especially when I've been on a roll. Anyways, here is a quick recap of what I did this week:

I watched one of the last of my brother's hockey games from this season, today is his last game before playoffs, so wish him well!

A lot of working! I've been working pretty much every day at my Dad's work in the office, and I didn't do much else. The positive of all of that working? I've finally saved up enough to purchase a "big-girl" camera for my blog! look forward to better quality photos and videos up in the coming weeks! I also plan to post this Saturday's video tomorrow, so stay tuned for a fun summer vid!

My BFF Jessica and I trekked into the city yesterday to meet Carly from the College Prepster! She has always been one of my absolute favorite bloggers; great style, amazing advice, and realness... I'm sold! I admire her success and content such much, I hope to one day be half of the blogger she is!
Anyways, the meet-up was super fun, and Jessica and I ended up at Cheesecake Factory at the Hancock Building for lunch, and walked up and down Michigan Avenue for a while. The weather was beautiful, a lovely Spring Chicago day!

I used the App "Park Whiz" to reserve a parking spot downtown for really cheap, and was super pleased with it! We were able to valet within a block from the meet-up for $15! (for 12 hours!)

We were all color-coordinated, how perfect!

(e-mail me for a discount on glasses and wedges!)

I can't wait to be more active on the blog this week and share what I'm up to!

Friday 5

World's worst blogger? Probably.

1.
I'm home! (Back on the North Shore!)
I got back home on Sunday (my reason for the radio silence around here) and I couldn't be happier. It's a little bit weird getting back into a routine, and I jumped straight in to helping at my dad's work on Tuesday, so I haven't had a ton of down time (there is dorm stuff everywhere...) but I'm excited to be home nonetheless.

2.
 Mother's Day
I was so excited to be able to spend Mother's day with my mom! My parents drove down Sunday to come pick me up, and we had a delicious lunch/dinner at Rafferty's! It was so nice to see her!

And oh yeah.... I went blonde!

3.
Happy Birthday Whiskers
Jordan circa 2009

if you want more whiskers, search #whiskersgram on Insta!

Whiskers turns 7 today which is crazy to me! I mean, look at those pictures from 2009, such a cutie! I Think he is about 10 weeks old in those pictures, it was right when we first picked him up.

4.

Make sure you subscribe to the blog's channel on youtube, because I will be uploading every Saturday this summer! Stay tuned for tomorrow's video!

5.
Starbucks Addict
I have to confess that I've been to Starbucks every day the since Tuesday. I've been using the app to order, run in to pick it up, and then head to work. What can I say, it's too easy...
My drink of choice has been a Venti nonfat Cinnamon Dolce Latte with 4pumps syrup and 3 shots. (I know, I'm high maintenance). What do you order at Starbucks? Have you tried online ordering?

Hope you have a great weekend!
Check back tomorrow for my first video of the summer!

My Last Night in my Freshman Year Dorm

I'm currently sitting in my bed, practically the only thing that isn't completely packed up, popping a bag of popcorn and sitting down to watch some Netflix on my TV. I had my last final of Freshman year this afternoon, and only have a paper to turn in tomorrow.
I can't believe I will be officially moved out tomorrow morning. I'll be living down the hall from this room next year, but it's amazing to think of all that has happened since I moved in August 15 of 2015. Looking around, the walls are bare, and my drawers are empty. I'm starting this year how I ended it. I will try to do a recap when I get home, but I've got a busy weekend ahead of me!

Looking back on my choice to attend Bellarmine, it seemed like less of a choice and more of a last resort to be honest. The funny thing is, Bellarmine is the first campus I toured that I walked off of saying I wanted to go there. I remember calling my Dad that night and telling him how amazing the school was, how beautiful the campus was and how much I wanted to go there. It was a cavalier decision that led me to this amazing school. This year has brought me so many new friendships, opportunities and taught me a lot about independence.

I'm so excited to see what the next three years will bring me!

I promise, it's more organized than it looks!! Everything is packed and ready, I just have a hoard of cleaning supplies on my desk.

Summer Bucket List

I can't believe summer is already almost here for me! I used to never appreciate summer. I was all about going back to school and hated the hot weather, but I feel like not I appreciate all that I'm able to do in the summer that I can't in the school year! I like creating lists of things I want to accomplish, especially lists like my 20 Before 20 list. They keep me more accountable for what I want to get done and what I want to get out of my year or the summer! Here's last year's list.

Without further ado, here is my 2016 Summer bucket list!

+ Go to the beach
I live minutes from the beach, yet I almost never go! I plan on going at least a few times this summer to soak up some sun, read, and stay cool!

+ Go on bike rides
I got an awesome bike for christmas a few years ago and have unfortunately hardly used it! Most of my friends live within biking distance from my house, not to mention awesome places to get ice cream or fro-yo, so I plan on biking more this summer.

+S'Mores Bonfire Party
I really want to host a few parties this summer so I can catch up with all of my friends! I've seen so many cute ideas on pinterest, and a s'mores bar seems like such a fun thing to do to kick off the summer!

+ Pizza Party
I think an outdoor pizza party would also be super fun to host! The restaurant where I works has delicious custom pizzas, and I think it would be super fun to order a bunch and snack on them with friends!

+ Go out of the country
My cousin is having a wedding reception this July in Canada and i'm super excited to see all my family up there and get dressed up. I also want to explore Toronto more while I'm there!

+ Buy a quality camera
I plan on my first big purchase of the summer being a nice DSLR camera. I've wanted one for ages and plan on splurging on one as soon as I get home!

+ Get blog business cards
This is on my 20 before 20 list because I really want to have business cards for my blog, that way when I'm telling people about it, I'll be able to give them a card with my site so they can find it easily!

+ Read 10 books
I have so many books on my to-read shelf, I want to get through some of them while I'm home!

+ Take active steps to grow my blog
This was one of my New Year's resolutions. I've been okay about it so far, but I really want to work on taking steps to grow my blog instead of just passively waiting.

+ See a concert
Living on the North Shore, there are so many opportunities to see concerts, and I hardly ever take advantage of them! Whether it's a free Ravinia concert, or something downtown, I at least want to catch one!

+ Visit my mom's office downtown
My mom recently started consulting for a company in downtown Chicago, and I really want to visit her one day and maybe have lunch!

+ Go golfing
I really wanted to do this last summer, but after my lung collapsing and everything, it was a pretty slow summer for me.

+ Play tennis
I used to take lessons when I was really little and my brother takes them now, so I want to get back into it and play with Shawn this summer!

+ Take up Pure Barre
They just opened a Pure Barre right near my house, and I definitley plan on checking it out and attending some classes! I really want to get into a good workout routine this summer, and I think Pure Barre would be a good way to do so!

+ Create a morning routine
With my mom working downtown three days a week now, I'll most likely be driving Shawn to school a lot at  the beginning of the summer. I hope to create a concrete morning routine for myself like I have at school. Once I get it down pat, I'll be sure to make a video for my Youtube channel!

+ Go to a baseball game
We have two baseball teams in Chicago, and as boring as it might be to watch, baseball games can still be super fun to go to and watch! I think it's the perfect summer activity!

What's on your summer bucket list?

April Favorites

I hope everyone had a fantastic April! I know I did. It started out up in Chicago for Easter, and ended just days away from moving home for summer. I thought I would share some of my favorites from the month today.

{Side note, if you didn't watch Obama's speech from the WHCD, please do, I was literaly rolling on the floor laughing, he is so funny!}

This self-tanner mousse is such a great formula. I've tried a handful of self-tanners before, and this is by far my favorite. I use the Light Bronze formula and two coats for the first use, and then use it about every 2-3 days to keep up the color. It is also great because it dries quickly, and doesn't get messed up by water or rain, so your hands aren't immediately 10 shades lighter than your arms.

I've had this perfume for years, and have been wearing it daily for months now. It's the perfect scent for spring and summer! It's light and fresh and not overpowering.

I got my Clarisonic for Christmas this year, and have been using it consistently for four months now. i can truly say that it has helped my skin out monumentally. I'm currently using this cleanser with it and love it. My skin is seriously so much clearer this semester and I give all the credit to my Clarisonic!

I picked this up with a gift card earlier this month and have worn it so many times since I got it! It's a very versatile pattern (duh, I mean it's striped) and the fabric is perfect for summer. I've worn it with jeans and Sperrys as well as with turquoise chino shorts and sandals!

This is more of a recent favorite, but I love her videos! She is so genuine and sweet! Her videos just make me feel so good! Her routine videos are next level, and her fashion sense is similar to mine, but she also does "real" videos where she talks about confidence, and taking time for yourself!

Things I didn't buy this month but wish I did:

Also, once I get home for summer, I'm planning on filming a ton of videos for the North Shore Proper Youtube channel! What kinds of things would y'all like to see on there? Please comment down below and let me know!

1 Year of Being a Knight

One year ago was May-Day, the day that all seniors in High School share their plans for after High School. Last year I posted on the blog about attending Bellarmine, and wore my shirt proudly to school.
I'm really glad I chose to come to Bellarmine. Senior year, I wasn't sure where I wanted to go, and applied to 5 schools. Second semester, I finally decided on University of Kentucky, but found out that their financial aid package was less than helpful. After that Miami of Ohio was my school of choice, but after finally deciding on Political Science for a major instead of education, I lost all of my scholarships there. It then came down to Bellarmine or North Central College. Bellarmine had pretty much everything I wanted: greek life (lol), location, religious affiliation, and great dorms. I finally committed to the school April 28th and haven't looked back.

It's so exciting to be a part of such an amazing community and live in such a unique atmosphere. A lot of people have asked me if I like it or if I'm happy with my choice, but it's so hard to say! I'm having a great time and met so many great people, but I have nothing to compare it to! Who's to say what my life would be like if I attended any of the other schools I applied to?

Something crazy that I was thinking about earlier is how important the decision of which college you attend is. It will quite literally determine the course of the rest of our life! Where you live, what jobs you get, friends you have, who you date, and everything else! Isn't that crazy to think about? So far, I haven't regretted my time at Bellarmine. Some days I may be a little jealous of my friends while watching their Snapchat stories or scrolling through Facebook, but I had so much fun at BU this semester and couldn't be happier with how it went.

It's crazy to think that I will be moving out this week - I'm actually starting to move stuff today - and that I'll be finished with my freshman year of college. This is what my life has been building up to for the past 18 years, and it's here, and already 1/4 of the way done.

I hope the last 3/4 is even more amazing than this year has been.
