Friday 5

Hi everyone! I'm very excited to be sharing my Friday 5 with you this week, not only because that means it's Friday, but also because I get to officially announce on here that you can now find the blog at

One of the things that I had really wanted to do this year was finally change my URL so that it's easier to find and doesn't have "Blogspot" attached to it. I've had a custom URL in the past, but once I re-branded to North Shore Proper, and stuck with that brand for a year, I knew I wanted to customize!

Now, onto...

1.
The weather these next few days is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous in Louisville. We're talking high 50's low 60's for a few days. Even better? The thunderstorm that's supposed to happen early on next week. I love me a good storm!
This forecast has got me longing for days filled with Chacos, Lilly, and Chino Shorts, but I think we're still a little  far from that.

2.
Running
I really need to get my butt to the gym.
I've been avoiding going since this new semester started, and with warm weather quickly approaching, I really want to get into better shape. A friend and I recently joined the Bellarmine Running club and this first run is on Saturday, however, I am so out of shape that I think I'm gonna skip out until I build up my stamina more! If anyone has tips to share, please comment down below!
I've been perusing Pinterest for some training guides and schedule and have found a couple that I like here.

3.
Concerts
Every year I say I want to go to at least one concert, and most years I fail. The last concert I went to was the Imagine Dragons concert back in 2014. I really want to try and see Luke Bryan this summer, and there are quite a few opportunities, so hopefully I'll make it!

4.
Election Time
Just taking a quick moment to share some appreciation for Election Season. I feel like a lot of people dislike election years, but for a DC obsessed Political Science major, it's a dream come true!
Please please please  go out and vote in your states primaries. It is so important and you really can make a difference in the election this way!

5.
I've been very active on my Tumblr recently, so be sure you're following me!
I also answer messages fairly quickly so if you have a burning question, be sure to send it to me on there!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

January Favorites

I can't believe I'm already posting my January Favorites! It seems like just yesterday it was Christmas morning! Today I'm sharing all of my favorites items for the month of January, fashion, beauty and in general.

Booties- I have a leather pair similar to these from Express and wore them all the times this month!

Grey Blouse- I've worn this at least once a week this month. It's the perfect length to wear with leggings and is on sale for under $25! The interesting texture is what drew me to it initially and it's super comfy!

Denim- I picked these up at Nordstrom with a giftcard, and have gotten a ton of wear out of them this month. They're much stretchier than most of my other jeans so they're super comfy! They're also a great deal under $60. (I wear a size 28 for reference)

Tarte Foundation- I picked this up at Ulta with some Christmas money on New Year's Eve and love it! The women in the store helped me pick out a foundation that matched my skin well and was excited to see that this one looked so nice on! I've heard great things about and have ben loving it so far!

Maybelline Concealer- This is great for under-eyes!

Oversized Plaid Scarf- I got a huge rectangular scarf as a Secret Santa gift back in 2011 and have been getting a ton of wear out of it these past few weeks. I even wore it yesterday with a plain black tee, my new jeans, and leather booties for a casual look. This Lands End one comes in a ton of colors ( I have the Blackwatch Plaid!) and comes in at under $15!

Daisy- An old favorite that I've worn a lot this month! Wishful thinking for spring perhaps?

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark- My all time favorite color!

As far as other favorites this month, I loved the book "Luckiest Girl Alive" by Jessica Knoll, Binge Watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix during snow days, and perhaps the most random favorite: bagels. My absolute favorite bagel combo from Einstein's is the Honey Whole Wheat bagel with Honey Almond schmear. I swear I've had one every day this week already! There are Einstein's on a lot of college campuses, but they also had stand alone stores up on the North Shore, so if you have one nearby, I totally recommend this combo!

Hair Inspiration

After last week, this one feels like it's been dragging on forever, and it's only Wednesday!
If there is one thing that I have at the top of my to-do list next month, it is to get a hair cut. I haven't gotten my haircut in over a year so it's definitely time for a change. Truthfully, I'm a little nervous because the last haircut I got was when I chopped it all off and got front bangs, so this time, I will certainly not be making any big changes.

6 months post chop!

I've been watching a lot of Grey's Anatomy lately, and I think that if I were to get any color processing done to my hair, I would want it to look something like this:
via
I actually really love this cut as well! I've been blowdrying my hair every time I shower, and I think this look would fit right into my current routine!

I've also been toying with the idea of a blunt cut (less layers) at about the length in the photo above.

Hitting the Slopes

Alpine Valley 2014
It's probably all of this snowy weather, but I am absolutely itching to hit the slopes.
My family has always been into skiing. That's actually how my parents met! We are definitely snow people. As much as we loved summers out on the boat, I think we like skiing and snowmobiling even more. I haven't been skiing in a couple of years, but I know we're going as a family over my Spring Break somewhere locally. Bellarmine was sponsoring a ski trip this past weekend, but canceled it due to inclement weather (aka Snowpocalypse).
My parents are the cutest!
Terry Peak South Dakota 2011
One of my favorite birthday gifts was a pair of skis and boots when I was about 10. They obviously don't fit me anymore, but I can't wait to start building up my own winter wear collection soon!
My parents always got me "Spyder" Jackets when I was younger, and It's definitely what I'm partial to now. There are a few Spyder jackets on sale at Nordstrom Rack right now!

Do you ski?

#LouSnow

From my Instagram
As I mentioned yesterday, this last week was quite the snowy one! The first snow was actually on my birthday a couple of weeks ago, but this week, we got two big storms in a row!
It was the weirdest week from a school standpoint because we were off Monday for MLK day, Wednesday for snow, and again Friday for the huge snow storm! I haven't been in my stats class since January 13!

I was so excited for these snow days. Snow always makes me really happy and reminds me of really fun snow days back when I was in middle school. My favorite thing to do on a snow day is definitely snuggle up in a cozy blanket with a cup of super hot coffee and either watch a movie or read a book.
Since I was letting my computer dry out on Saturday (see this post) I ended up reading an entire book! I had gotten "Luckiest Girl Alive" by Jessica Knoll for Christmas and brought it down here to read. I'm so glad I did because it was the perfect snow day read.
See what other books I'm reading here.

What to Expect

original post

Alright, so I'll be the first to admit that January was not the best blogging month for me. Even December, trickled off like it normally does for me. Coming out of what has been my best year of blogging so far, I can't help but say that I'm slightly disappointed in myself for slacking off so much this month.
So much has happened this month, I've moved back to Louisville, started my second semester at school, celebrated my birthday, and most recently survived snowpocalyspe this past week with only two days of school in the past seven! I really wanted to utilize this weekend to catch up on blogging, and was actually feeling super inspired, until I spilled cereal on my laptop and had to wait 48 for it to dry out before I could use it #blessed.

In the next few months, you can expect 3-6 posts per week - hopefully 6 most weeks- as well as a change in my URL. If you've been reading for a while, you'd know that I used to have a custom URL, but when I rebranded to North Shore Proper, I did't renew the old one. I hope to have the new one by the end of February.

I'd also like to know what everyone would like to see more or less of! Please use the comments section down below, or my e-mail NorthShoreProper@gmail.com to let me know!

Make sure you're keeping up with me on social media:

Birthday Recap

I'm already a week late on this, but I thought that I would post a recap of all of the fun things I did for my birthday January 10th.

It was a pretty crazy week overall, as I started the week on the North Shore with my family, but ended the week all moved into my dorm and a couple of days into my second semester at Bellarmine!

For my birthday dinner with my family, I wanted to go to "Uncle Julio's" at Old Orchard mall, but they couldn't take us at the time we needed to fit into Shawn's hockey schedule, so we ended up at "Uno Mas" in The Glen area of Glenview. If you're looking for a nice sit down Mexican meal, I would recommend it!

We tried the Grilled Street Corn as an appetizer and I would highly recommend, it was delicious!

I also baked my own birthday cake this year. As a control freak, I certainly didn't mind this.

My mom and I headed down to Louisville Wednesday morning, and I moved in that night!

On my actual birthday, we headed to brunch at Highland Morning on Bardstown Road in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville. It's super close to Bellarmine, and despite it being a Sunday, we only had to wait 20 minutes for a table! (We got coffee at Day's Coffee while waiting and that was also super cute!) It was also the first snow of the year in Louisville which in itself was the ultimate gift!

I had the Loaded Baked Potato Omelet, and it was so good! My mom got the Shroom Scramble and Aunt Linda got the stuffed french toast and they said theirs were delicious as well! It's also a great price range, and they serve mimosas if you're of age.
Overall, I can't wait to go back!

I spent the rest of the day spending time with my mom and my aunt, and then we went back to the dorm to share cake with my friends.

Thanks to everyone for making it a great birthweek!

Country Club Prep

A photo posted by Jordan Arrigo (@jojoarrigo) on

One thing that I've mentioned a few times before on here is how much I love the website Country Club Prep. I've been an ambassador to the site for almost two years now (feel free to e-mail me - NorthShoreProper@gmail.com for a 20% off promo code!)

I received a pair of leggings from the the site for my birthday, and will most likely wear them every day this week.
They're by the popular brand Krass & Co. and they're super comfy and cute! With my discount code, they're at a much better price point than LuluLemon too!
(they run TTS. For reference I wear a size 4)

They also carry some of my other favorite brands such as Vineyard Vines, Jack Rogers, Lilly Pulitzer, and Sperry.

Friday 5 - Catching Up

I can't believe we're already halfway through January! I'm so behind on things that I wanted to post this month, like hello, we haven't even review how I did on my 19 before 19 list! I've been having a hard time getting back into a blogging routine, but I hope to get back in the swing of things by the end of the month.
1.
Grey's Anatomy
So, I'm a little bit obsessed with this show, and if I have any free time in my dorm, you can bet I'm watching it. I received a TV and Roku box for christmas this year, so it's been really nice to be able to watch on a big screen at school!

2.
This song has been stuck in my head for over a week now! I'm just obsessed! I'm sure you've heard it, but if you haven't be sure to give it a listen.

3.
The weather here in Louisville has been absolutley insane this week! It was freezing and snowed on my birthday(recap coming soon) and then 60˚ yesterday after noon!
Thursday Afternoon
Wednesday!

4.
'A Woman's Place' Sweater

I actually didn't catch the debate last night because I couldn't find the channel on the University Cable, but there are plenty of debates coming up as election season is right around the corner!

5.
Chipotle
What are your thoughts on the whole situation with Chipotle? I heard that they will be closing all locations down for 1 day next month in order to combat the e.coli outbreak, but I'm still nervous to eat there! I've turned to Moe's Southwestern Grill to satisfy my tastebuds for now, but I can't wait to go back to my old friend soon! ;)

New Sweater Picks

It's become surprisingly cold down here in Louisville, like Chicago cold. Last night? 13˚F.
The best way to combat this? I suggest snuggling up with a cup of coffee in a nice thick sweater  and watching Grey's Anatomy. That's just my personal opinion.
There are some really great sweaters out there right now, a lot with cool textures, making neutral sweaters something different!
Which one is your favorite?

Starting Second Semester

I simply cannot believe that it is already Thursday! I really  cannot believe that I'm already back at Bellarmine! I've only had one class so far today, but I have a feeling that second semester is going to come in swinging. I'm really excited for all of my classes and love the way my schedule panned out, but I can't help but be nervous for the large work load I took on.
First semester went really well for me, like, the best I've done in a long time, and I hope to continue the streak into second semester, and well into my college career.

Although I believe the above quote is meant for fitness motivation, I think that it really applies to school work. It especially makes sense to me due to how unmotivated I felt coming back to school this semester after a leisurely break.

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale

Today is one of the best days of the year! No, not my birthday, the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale!
This year the sale is only one day, so it truly is a flash sale!
I got in within 15 minutes of being in the queue, only 600 people in front of me, and way very impressed by the selection!
I found so many cute pieces but I really had to use self restraint to not blow all of my spending money for the semester!

This sale, I was really drawn to a lot of flowy silk items. I think that may be because I have enough shift dresses to last a lifetime already!

-I love the color, pattern, and texture of these shorts!-

-The back of this dress if gorgeous, and I think will be great for easter! I also love the bell sleeves!-

This was the pattern I was most drawn to during the sale. Not only does it have a perfectly punny name, I love the bright blues and reds in this dress!
The back of this silk dress is shown as scoop neck in the photos, but in the runway video, it has an extra strap, so we'll se when it comes in the mail! I'm going to my cousin's non-wedding wedding this summer in Canada, and I think this will be the perfect dress to wear! The silhouette is casual, but the fabric, silk, is perfectly dressy!

Here are some more of my favorites:
