My Claddagh Ring

The Claddagh symbol is a one that symbolizes friendship, love, and loyalty. It is an important part of Irish culture, and a very important part of my family. All of my Aunts on my mothers side wear their claddagh rings everyday, and my both of my mothers parents did as well. I was given my Claddagh for High School Graduation from my parents and haven't taken it off since. (I didn't get the ring until mid July, as my mom had a hard time finding the "perfect one")
Even on my most casual of days when I'm wearing leggings and an oversized t-shirt, you can bet I'm wearing my claddagh ring. My ring looks almost exactly like my mom's ring. I say almost because mine hasn't been run over a car like hers was when she was a teenager.
My ring is solid gold and we bought it from a jeweler, so you can't purchase this exact ring, but this one from Lord & Taylor is almost exactly the same! My mom actually purchased this one for me, but she decided to get one from the jeweler instead, because she wanted the band to be more substantial.

I'm very excited to go home for winter break and get my ring polished! My ring has a fairly high karat so it gets easily scuffed, so I can't wait for it to be extra sparkly once it's polished.
My ring is very important to me because not only does is connect me further to my parents because they gave it to me, but it also helps me feel even more connected to my whole mother's side of he family, and my Irish culture.
It is customary to wear the ring in a specific direction based on your relationship status. For example, I am not in a relationship, so I wear my ring with the heart facing outward, but my mother and aunt's hearts are not open so they wear the heart pointing in!

I love this photo of my Aunt Linda and my mom, because you can see them both wearing their rings!

I also have a Claddagh necklace which I received from my parents for my golden (10th) birthday. I love my necklace and have worn it often over the last 8 (almost 9!) years. My necklace is also gold, so it has held up beautifully, as you can see in the photo below of me from graduation.
Another reason my necklace is very special to me is that it was made in Ireland. My ring was not made in Ireland, as most of the rings made there now are very soft gold. My mom searched pretty much every where for a harder karat ring made in Ireland, but was unable to find one she liked.

Winter Coats

I know I was just blogging about how it's still sweater weather here in Louisville, and it is, but I'm heading back to the North Shore in a couple of weeks, and I know it will be a rude awakening when i step out of the car.
I've had my eye on this Ralph Lauren jacket as a contender for the birthday list (I'll be 19 in January!) and it's under $125, over 40% off!

All of the coats I've included are on sale right now, (even the J.Crew one with code 'HOLIDAY')!

Holiday Season: Griswalding

via
I simply cannot believe that we've already come to the week of Thanksgiving! My cousins Annie and Rose will be arriving tomorrow to spend the night at Bellarmine, and the rest of my family should be arriving Wednesday. Not including today, I only have 4 days of classes left and my finals before I'm finished with my first semester of college!
I'm so excited to be heading home in only a few short weeks for a lovely 26 day break!
It will be amazing to see all of my friends after months away, and pick out gifts for everyone, and maybe even throw a holiday party!

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays as it serves as the true kickoff to the holiday season. I love watching the parade in the morning, the smell of the turkey and the rolls cooking in the oven, and most importantly, sharing a delicious meal with my family.
One of my favorite memories from the holidays over my life so far has been "griswalding" with my family over Christmas break. If you're unfamiliar with the term griswalding, or if it's actually a word made up by my parents, it's when you drive around at night before Christmas looking at all of the Christmas lights. This is especially fun on the North Shore, because the homes are already so beautiful and historic. The house from Home Alone is only a couple of suburbs away from my house!
I can't wait to go griswalding once I get home!

I hope everyone has a lovely Monday!

Cozy Nights: Christmas Movies

I'm not going to lie to you, I watched Love, Actually a few nights ago, and Elf a few nights before that. I'm not ashamed, the Christmas spirit is alive and well here in my dorm. We've decorated our door with festive glitter snowflakes and have a balsam air freshener keeping our room smelling like a Christmas Tree Farm.
Many of my friends are back home on Thanksgiving break, and it snowed almost a foot on the North Shore this weekend (majorly jealous of that!), so this is the perfect time to snuggle up on your couch and watch a christmas movie!
Shop everything here:

These Christmas movies are some of my favorites and are a wide variety between classics and new favorites!
Of course no movie night is complete without popcorn, and an adorable holiday mug full of your favorite hot drink. My drink of choice? Piping hot coffee! (and of course I'd add some M&M's to go with my popcorn!)

What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

Maroon and Green Holiday || Outfit of the Day

top - wrap - necklace (similar)
skirt (similar) - pumps

I simply cannot believe how quickly the holiday season is approaching! Next week is Thanksgiving and Christmas is soon after, that means its time for endless events and holiday parties.

I love this look because it is so effortless to throw on, and incorporates my favorite holiday colors.
This blouse is extremely soft, and under $20 from boohoo and is quickly becoming a staple in my fall wardrobe. My velvet skirt was a gift, but I found a similar option here. Velvet and the holidays go hand in hand in my opinion, and this easy skirt is such an easy way to incorporate it into many outfits effortlessly.
My forest green necklace is older, but I found a similar option on etsy that is very affordable! I think that holiday parties are the perfect occasion for statement necklaces, especially very "blingy" or colorful ones!
I also threw on a cream scarf for warmth, and I think that the color really works to pull the outfit together. For shoes, I stuck with a pair of nude pumps. These can go with any outfit in any season and are timeless in my opinion.

Gift Guide: For Her

I feel like women are simultaneously difficult, and easy to shop for. For example, when strapped with time, a simple scarf and bottle of nail polish is a gift that most women would appreciate, but sometimes a generic gift just won't suffice.
I had so much fun putting together this gift guide. It has so many fun pieces in a different price ranges. There are gifts that would be great for your mom, and gifts that are perfect for your niece.

These wine glasses are a must for any "Scandal" fan.
You can never go wrong with a pair of Jack Rogers, or a monogrammed pair of leather gloves.
Pajamas and Uggs would make a fun gift set for your daughter (I have a pair of these and love them as slippers!)

Holiday Dress under $30

This dress from boohoo is on sale, 30% off (with code), making it only $24.50!
I love the colors that it comes in, and I think any of them would be perfect for the holidays! Boohoo also has very quick shipping, so it's sure to be here by the holidays.
30% off ends tonight, but if you're a student, boohoo always has 25% off with your student e-mail!

This neckline is also very flattering, and the scalloped detail makes it even cuter!
Pair it with a great pair of pumps and a cute clutch and you're ready to go!

Sweater Weather

Although the holidays are fast approaching (stay tuned this week for another gift guide and holiday look!) the weather in Kentucky is adamantly mild. On the North Shore this weekend, they're calling for a little bit of snow, or at least some freezing temps, but in Louisville? Not so much. Here you're fine walking outside with just a sweater, and maybe a scarf or vest in your bag for after sunset. A friend of mine on campus is also from the Chicago area, and we were in awe today that it was over 60˚F only a week before Thanksgiving!

Today I'm sharing some sweaters perfect for this time of year!

I just love this graphic sweater from Talbots - perfect for Christmas Tree farm-going, and this adorable style from J.Crew!

Red Lip & Suede || Outfit of the Day

This outfit is so comfortable and effortless, I can't wait to wear it to a holiday party or out to dinner! The dress is super flowy and soft, and the thigh-high suede boots dress it up just enough. I added a red lip to add some color to the outfit, and my burlap clutch was the final accessory.

Gift Guide: Secret Santa

Somehow it seems like it's too early to be posting gift guides, but Thanksgiving is already next week, which means holiday shopping is coming in at full force! I always post my Secret Santa guide first, as most people draw secret santa fairly early in the holiday season! I love secret santa, or gift exchanges in general, and always have such fond memories of picking out gifts for my person, and watching everyone unwrap theirs and try and guess who bought for them. Some of my favorite gifts have been a result of that!
Below I've compiled some adorable gifts that would be perfect for secret santa, or even make great stocking stuffers!

All of these gifts are under $40, so they're perfect for office gift exchanges or a white elephant with friends! Gift some gourmet hot chocolate with the mug, a bottle of fireball with the shot glasses, or some champagne with the wine tote for an extra personal gift! (If you're of age of course!)

I'll be posting lots of gift guides in the coming weeks, so make sure you're following me on bloglovin' to keep up!

Holiday Fashion with J.Crew Factory

While perusing some of my favorite sites to craft gift guides and my christmas list, I came to J.Crew factory, and found some of the most gorgeous pieces for the holiday season. I put together a few pairings that I think would be perfect for holiday parties, Christmas Day, and Thanksgiving alike. I seriously want to buy every single one of these items, and with the current sale going on, your cart comes in at under $500, and save the leather skirt, under $350!

I think my favorite look is the chunky heeled pumps and embellished pullover, but all of these looks are so festive I wish they were in my closet waiting for me to wear them to holiday parties!
Which look is your favorite?

Currently I am

Blogging: although much less than last month. The semester is beginning to wrap up with only 12 more days of classes, the weeks seem to be flying by!

Watching: Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce. I started watching this on Netflix this weekend and am almost done with the whole season. I loved Lisa Edelstein on HOUSE, so it's fun to see her in a more light hearted setting. (and her red Birkin.... *swoon*)

Eating: Popcorn and M&M's like it's nobody's business. I've now officially switched over to red and green holiday M&M's too, so we're really in the Christmas Spirit.

Listening To: My November Playlist, which you can find in a widget on the right hand side of my blog! My favorite song of the moment is probably "Big Green Tractor."

Singing: "All I Want for Christmas is You." I got this stuck in my head Saturday and was singing it for what seemed like the whole weekend! I also love the Justin Bieber version that came out a few years ago!

Creating: my Christmas list. My Christmas list this years seems extremely boring as I've been pretty uninspired! Most of the things I want are either unpractical for college (cute dresses and heels). Help a girl out and let me know what is on your Christmas list down below!

Drinking: so much coffee I think I might explode. I've been drinking so much coffee this past week it's absolutely insane. I don't even need the caffeine, I just love the taste. And, a hot drink has been very comforting these past few gloomy days.

Wearing: my pixie pants non-stop. I have a couple of pairs and they have been my lifesavers on days where I just can't get myself to put jeans on.

Reading: "Fates and Furies" by Lauren Groff.

"All you Need is a Light Jacket" || Outfit of the Day

I love this time of year. The leaves on the trees are stunning, and the weather is amazing. It rained quite a bit last week, but I'm not complaining.
When weather like this rolls around, it's so much easier to dress for class in the morning. You can just throw on a sweater, leggings, and boots, and you're good to go. This look is a little bit dressier with the wedges, but it would be perfect for a casual meeting.
I'm so obsessed with these wedges. They're BCBG and I found them at DSW over Labor Day and scooped them up. I think they are going to be perfect for fall and winter, and not to mention holiday parties!
