Friday 5 - Five Items on my Wishlist

This weeks Friday 5 is going to be very short and sweet, as a highly procrastinated English paper is a slightly more pressing concern at this moment. With the roll I've been on posting this week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 1&2, Thursday) I just couldn't abandon the blog today!
Every color, period. Need them all.
(Great price for such a trendy style)

These three are probably my favorite color options

This scarf from Tnuck
I love how Kelly styled it here.

The red color would be so gorgeous for a Christmas Eve mass!

Although not the most practical for a college student, It's a very versatile piece that will last for decades and never go out of style.

These leggings are so adorable, I especially love the detail at the ankle!

What have you been lusting over recently?

Which Parent Knows me Better?

I've seen numerous videos like this across the web, and I thought it would be really fun to shoot with my family over fall break!
I'm currently working on a blooper reel which will probably be published next month, as well as a couple of vlogs from fall break!
I hope this video will help you to get to know me better, as well as have some laughs.

p.s. my parents were already in their pajamas when I made them film this since it was 11 o'clock at night.... thanks Mom and Dad!

Make sure you subscribe to my channel so you catch all of my videos!

On Trend: Buffalo Check

I feel like every fall, there is a huge surge of buffalo check in stores. It's a very popular trend every fall, and I've become especially obsessed with it this fall.
I think that this scarf would be perfect for UofL tailgates, and this dress would be adorable for thanksgiving with some tights and black booties!
I'm also obsessed with this blouse!
here are some great looks that incorporate buffalo check:

Daily Routine

I finally feel like I'm starting to fall into a bit of a routine here at Bellarmine, over halfway through the semester, whoops! I have different classes Monday, Wednesday, Friday as I do Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I thought I would share my typical Friday!

8:08 AM
My alarm starts to go off and I hit snooze for the first time. My roommate has class at 9, so I like to think of it an a courtesy for her.

8:45 AM
I'm still in bed.

9:15 AM
By this time, I may have mustered up the courage to begin to check any Snapchat Stories I may have missed while I was sleeping, and look at my favorite Instagrams.

9:30 AM
By this time, I know I need to kick it into high gear in order to be at class on time. I make my coffee (see my favorites here). I run to the bathroom, wash my face, and brush my teeth.

9:40 AM
This is when I realize there is no why I'm doing my hair or makeup, which is fine with me. I usually end up doing my hair on Tuesdays or Thursdays and keeping in for the next day, and I've been wearing little to no makeup to class in an effort to clear up my skin.
Depending on the temperature and weather, I throw on an outfit, varying from Norts and oversize T and converse, to a sweater, jeans, and boots.

9:50 AM
Leave for Class

10:00 - 10:50 AM
Expository Writing Class
*Coffee Time*

10:50-12:00 PM
This varies each week. Some days I'll head to the library to blog or catch up on homework, sometimes I'll head back to the dorms to get a quick workout and shower in!
This is my favorite time of my day because I feel like I always get so much work done!

12:00 PM
My typical lunch is some sort of soup, usually of the chicken variety, some bread whether that be cheesy bread or some pita chips, a diet coke, and if I'm lucky, a cookie or a piece of cake.

12:30-1:00 PM
Sometimes I head back to the library after I eat to get some more work done, or I'll continue to hang in the dining hall until my next class.

1:00-1:50 PM
Spanish class.
If all goes as planned, this is the last Spanish class I'll ever have to take. *praise hands*

2:00-2:50 PM
This is always a really fun class to end my week with. The content is very interesting and I love the Professor!

2:50-5:30 PM
I always head back to my room after classes and chill out after a long week. This usually means watching Netflix (every college student's best friend) or taking a nap if the week was really rough. I don't normally nap through out the week, so it's nice to take a nap or sleep in on the weekends.

5:30-6:30 PM
I usually go to dinner around 5:30 with my roommate or other friends.
Friday at Bellarmine is really a toss up. It can be delicious, or there can literally be no options which usually sets the tone for the rest of the night.

6:30 PM
If I'm doing something that night, I'll usually get ready, but most Fridays I spend recovering from the rest of the week with some serious bingewatching.

10:00 PM
Usually I'll grab a bite to eat at the food place near our dorm. My favorite choice is the Chicken tenders and fries. #EatClean. The honey mustard really makes it.

11:30 PM
This is when I typically get my second wind. I'll start obsessively cleaning my side of the room and fighting with my sheets until my bed is pristinely made (for me to climb in to sleep 2 hours later). I'll also jump in the shower if I haven't already. (See my shower routine here)
If not, I'll just wash my face and brush my teeth.
{I'm planning on posting a skin care routine sometime in the next few weeks}

12:30 AM
I usually revert back to my computer now and either blog or watch Netflix.

1:30 AM
I always try to read a little bit of a book, recently it's been finishing up The Martian, or a Harry Potter book ('tis the season) and I journal. Keeping a journal has been fun this year, just because I really want to be able to document some fun memories!

2:00 AM
Time for Bed! If I'm not exhausted, I'll usually listen to a podcast as I'm falling asleep.
My favorites are Coffee With Chrachel and Serial- It's taking me forever to finish this!

I know I don't go to bed until super late, but it is a Friday, and we usually don't wake up until at least 10 on Satudays ensuring a full 8 hours of sleep!

What is your favorite part of the day?

Louisville Tailgate

Today I thought I'd share what I've worn to the couple of Louisville football tailgates, and game.

The first game was actually pretty chilly for early September, so I opted for a sweater and jeans:

sweater - Gap (similar)
jeans - Old Navy
shoes - Converse
purse - Marley Lilly

The second time we went (this past weekend) the forecast called for rain, and boy did it pour. I chose a lightweight sweatshirt dress and my rain jacket to keep me dry. I wore my leather riding boots, and in retrospect, Bean Boots probably would have served me better, as it took 24 hours for my boots to completely dry out, and they really stretched.
We also went to the game this day, so I took into consideration that we would be outside for much longer.

dress - Target (similar)
boots - Nine West (similar)
Necklace - Etsy

I don't have a ton of "true" red clothing items, as Bellarmine's colors are scarlet and silver, so I often just go for a plain black and white outfit, and then add some red sunglasses and lipstick (ruby twist is my favorite and pictured below), or even a red hat to rep Louisville. (Don't worry, once we get into basketball season, I'll be rooting for the Cats!)

Face Stickers are also really fun!

Tan & Navy || Outfit of the Day

Nothing like a giant close up picture of my face to start your morning!
This outfit was actually photographed back in February - hence the bob, but I never got around to posting it! Now that the outfit is back in season, I figured I would share it!

Earrings (similar) - Necklace (similar)
Sweater (similar) - Scarf
Jeans - Boots (similar)

Friday 5

First off, I just wanted to thank everyone who read yesterday's post. I worked really hard on it and I love the support I got from all of my friends and family.
I *finally* added social media buttons to my blog! Make sure you're following along on all of my various platforms. You can find them at the top of every page, and right here:

I have been super into my FitBit this week which is exciting.
I have the FitBit ChargeHR (read about it more here) and have worn it every day this week! Whenever I'm wearing it, I always feel so much more motivated to get my steps in and take the stairs to my classes!

I'm in the market for a DSLR camera.
Most of my "Outfit of the Day" posts have been graciously photographed by my friend Eleni, and they're absolutely gorgeous, but right now, she is 1,500 miles away at school! My digital camera and iPhone shots just aren't cutting it anymore!
My price range is under $600, so if you have any recommendations, please comment them down below! (or e-mail me) I'll take any and all advice.

I'm on a bit of a fitness kick this month, and am trying to get back into somewhat of a routine.
Bellarmine offers free yoga classes four nights a week, and I really want to start going again!
It's also a great excuse for some new workout clothes!
In regards to the Lilly Pulitzer workout wear... I die.

I absolutely cannot believe that Halloween in so soon!
Bellarmine is hosting a Halloween party tonight, and I'm still unsure of whether I'm going, let alone what I'll dress as!
One thing is for certain, there is nothing cuter than a dog in a Halloween costume:

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

5 Things you Need to Survive High School

I know that for many, high school is a time they would rather not look back on. Personally, high school was a pretty great time for me. Although I had my fair share of highs and lows, high school overall was a great experience.
I by no means had perfect grades, or an amazingly stereotypical social life, but I was really happy and had a great experience, which I think is the more important.

1. Tough Skin
There are a lot of judgmental people in the world. My thoughts? Who cares what they think. To be truly content with who you are, you have to remember that other peoples' thoughts, comments, and opinions don't have to affect who you are or how you think about yourself. This can be very very hard, and take a long time to achieve, but once you do, you'll be much happier.
Another reason you need tough skin? Grades. The transition from middle to high school can be an extremely difficult one, I would know. Getting your first papers and assignments back can be a huge blow to your ego if you do not receive that grade you thought you might, but you have to take the criticism, move on and try harder next time. If you're continually seeing a problem, or even the first time something happens, go talk to your teacher. More often than not, they will be happy to help you and showing that you care about your grades can make a big difference in how they evaluate your work.

2. Good Work Ethic
This is the thing that I struggled the most with in high school. Coming out of middle school, I had essentially no work ethic. I breezed through middle school and was plopped in a place where I would have to *gasp* try  to get good grades. Developing a good work ethic early on will help you so much not only in high school, but also in college, grad school, heck, the rest of your life! There are a few ways to do this, but I would say the number one way is to start something as soon as it is assigned. You can read more about getting motivated here.

One of the biggest parts of surviving high school, especially your junior and senior year, is getting into college. Speaking from experience, your college application is something that constantly weighs on your mind your senior year. You regret things you did and didn't do your freshman year. Your extra-curriculars in high school are some of the most important things you do. Not only can they enhance a college application, they can also make a huge impact on your social life! I met so many amazing people through extra-curriculars, and strengthened bonds with some of my best friends through them as well! Having these friends creates a backbone of support for you throughout high school and is essential for survival.

4. Self-Respect
This is similar to "tough skin," but you need to not only respect yourself mentally, but physically. Sleep deprivation is very real. I would say that it was worse for me in high school than it has been so far in college. Getting enough, or close to enough, sleep and taking of your self are so important during high school. I would say some of the most important aspects of this point are: getting enough sleep, taking care of your skin, exercising, eating enough (and well, not just Chipotle burritos as temping as that may be), and creating time to relax with friends.

5. Having Goals
Having a concrete goal is something that can be so motivating and really help your performance. For example, in high school, I didn't have my heart set on any particular college. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I wasn't sure where, or what I wanted to major in. I think that definitely affected how I performed in high school, because I didn't have an end-game goal motivating me to do well. In college, I know I want to go to law school, and I know which one. I know exactly how well I need to do on the LSAT and in my classes in order to have a chance at achieving that goal. That really helps to motivate me in my classes and to participate in certain extra-curricular activities.
Visualizing this goal can also be very productive. For example, I have a gorgeous picture of the law school that I wish to attend set as my wallpaper on my computer, so every time I open it up, I'm reminded of why I'm at Bellarmine and how hard I need to work in order to succeed.

I hope you found this post helpful!

Hostess Gifts

I feel like there is just something so fun about picking out gifts for people. On Christmas, I'm almost more excited to watch loved ones open gifts I've chosen for them than I am to open my presents! I've already started brainstorming ideas for gift guides this year, but I thought I'd share some adorable hostess gifts in the mean time!
Flowers are always a really fun gift to bring over to someones house, but it's also fun to add a small gift as well, especially if they're hosting a large party or it's the first time you're visiting their new place!
I think that the pot holders would be great to give as a housewarming present, especially for sushi lovers or even a fun new key fob! And how fun would it be to gift someone a set of Tervis Tumblers if they've just moved to a new city!
Of course, you can never go wrong with a candle or two!

Favorite Dorm Snacks

College is a place where your life opens up to so many new experiences! You meet tons of new people, live on your own and get yourself to class, walk EVERYWHERE, and choose exactly what you want to eat, when  you want to eat it.
I was pretty independent my senior year of high school, especially because I had my own car, and I always bought lunch in high school, so I was pretty used to the freedom and choosing what I wanted to eat, however, I didn't exactly realize how much I took those endless snacks at home for granted!
There are a few snacks that I keep constantly stocked in my dorm for those late nights when hunger strikes, or if you're like me and aren't in love with the .75 mile trek to the dining hall.

Here are my favorite dorm snacks:

I'm high-key obsessed with these. A cup of coffee and a pack of these in the morning has become my routine, especially on my early mornings! {Stay tuned for a day in the life post coming soon}

Flat Pretzels and Peanut Butter
This is great when you're craving something savory and crunchy. There's also a good bit of protein in peanut butter, so it's a great snack for that afternoon after-class slump.

I feel like hot chocolate, especially when made with milk, really fills me up and can make a great breakfast if I'm in a hurry!

Would this really be a dorm post unless I talked about Easy Mac? It's a college essential as far as I'm concerned. I'm pretty sure they've improved the formula since I was in middle school, because I don't remember it tasting this good...

Popcorn and M&M's
(especially the holiday colored m&m's)
I don't know why I love this snack/combo so much, but if I'm craving something sweet or decadent at night, I immediately throw a bag of popcorn in the microwave and grab my bowl of m&m's.
I don't normally like m&m's either, but there's just something about throwing a couple in my bowl of popcorn that make them delicious! - My favorite popcorn is linked above!

What are your favorite snacks?

Fall Fashion - Pink Flannel

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, I know I did! Saturday I was saying how much I wanted to watch some Harry Potter, and when I woke up on Sunday, I found out that it was an ABC Family Harry Potter Weekend! I spent most of the weekend cuddled in bed with some Hot Cocoa and Netflix.
It's actually really chilly here in Kentucky, at least for October. When I woke up this morning around 9am, it was a balmy 39˚! I thought I'd share an adorable outfit that is great for transitioning to chilly weather!

booties (On Sale for under $50!) - scarf
Have a fantastic Monday!

Friday 5 - Books, Kardashians and Halloween

I know I've only posted once since my last Friday 5, but I feel like it's been an eternity! I was back at home for 4 days, and took two midterms! I had such a fun weekend and can't wait to share everything in future vlogs!

I've been slowly but surely reading the book "The Martian" since June, and since the movie is already out, I really want to finish it! I'm not don with it yet, but if you want to see the movie, or are in to any science/chemistry/space topics, I think you'd love this book! It's also really hilarious!

I spent my Monday morning watching Keeping up with the Kardashians, and I forgot what an addicting guilty pleasure show it is!
I watched all of the episodes from the most recent installment of the season, and have become a little bit obsessed with their fashion and lifestyle.
-Side Note-
So sad to hear that Lamar Odom is not well, praying for a full recovery!
Here are some Kardashian inspired pieces:

I can't believe how "fall-like" the weather is becoming here in Louisville! I picked up this pair of over-the-knee suede boots last weekend and loved wearing them around the North Shore. I can't wait to pair them with some cute sweater and flannels here!
[see me wear them here]

I really want to get into the Halloween spirit this weekend. Bellarmine is having a Halloween dance on an old Steam Boat on the river next week and I can't wait!
I want to watch some classic Halloween movies this weekend; comment down below your Netflix recommendations!

Friendly reminder that October is Breast Cancer awareness month!
Make sure to keep Christina from North Carolina Charm in your prayers this month as she undergoes her major surgery!
Also, please remember to schedule you annual mammogram!
As a daughter of a Breast Cancer survivor, I know and appreciate the value of early detection!

Buttercup's Bookshelf - The Glam Guide

Hi everyone, I'm finally back at Bellarmine after an amazing fall break! I vlogged most of it, so you'll be able to see what I did once those videos go up next week!
Over my fall break, I had the pleasure of attending the Fleur de Force book signing at Old Orchard mall. "The Glam Guide" is a book I've been wanting to pick up, and this was the perfect opportunity, not to mention, I got to meet two of my favorite youtubers - Fleur and Mike!

poncho- Charlotte Russe in-store (similar)
pants - J.Crew

Tuesday I was "chauffeured" (thanks Dad and Aunt Linda) back to Bellarmine, and had the chance to read the entire "Glam Guide" in the car.

It's such a fun book to have and look through, and especially refer back to.
One of the things that I loved the most was the fact that there were recipes for snacks, masks, etc. These help you to get more use out of the book, rather than just putting it on your book shelf and never looking back at it again.
I also love that Fleur makes it a point to say in the beginning that she isn't telling you that you must do any of these things, it's merely a book of advice and tips.
I also loved how the book covered a wide range of things from makeup to hair to health, and even mental health!
I think that this would make a great gift for any women in your family, especially with the holidays coming up!

Friday 5

My mom is coming in town tonight! (Yes, she just left on Sunday, but she loves me so she is coming back). We're driving back to Chicago tomorrow and I'm super excited to see my dog, and enjoy the luxeries of living in a house again, like showering without flip-flops. I also get to see my best friend Saturday and explore Chicago on Sunday which are always super fun!

I've been listening to songs off of Ryan Adams 1989 album a ton this week! His covers of "Wildest Dreams" and "Style" are probably my favorites!
Listen below:

I'm on the search for some really great jeans, and I'm honestly feeling a bit underwhelmed. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I would love everyone's suggestions either in comments down below, or you can e-mail me!

I am in no position to be buying, or even browsing for that matter, designer purses, however, I feature this Salvator Ferragamo on in a blog post this week and have been thinking about that gorgeous wine color all week! I think it would be such a perfect bag for fall and winter!

Am I the only one who cannot believe that Halloween is only a couple of weeks away?
My roommate and I have of course decorated our dorm to the point where it looks like the decoration aisle at Target threw up, but who could pass up this adorable door sign?!
Bellarmine's Halloween party is two weeks from today, and I have no idea what to be! Any suggestions gladly appreciated!

P.S. I hope to return with some more "outfit of the day posts" soon as well as some more video content, so stay tuned next week!

The Chop

I feel like it's every fall that I have an uncontrollable urge to cut my hair short. Last fall, I acted on that urge and cut 14" off.
Call me basic, but some of my biggest regrets in life have to do with cutting my hair.

This photo was taken approximately 2 weeks post chop:

I shudder thinking about the length and the fact that I also had the always-regrettable front bang.

This was my inspiration for my haircut....
Lately, I've really been wanting that "Lob" (long-bob) back, but I know I'll regret cutting it, especially when my hair is finally growing out from last time!

Here are some pics that are not helping me fight this urge:

Have you ever had a regrettable haircut?

Fall Fashion

Currently watching the Blackhawks regular season opener, and feeling great. Hockey is such a staple in my family that even though I'm 300+ miles away, I feel at home!
update - they lost

Today I thought I'd share a couple of outfits I really wish were in my closet this fall!
[Even though as a college student I really have nowhere to wear them]

We all know I have a thing for grey sweaters, but these are just fantastic!
Accented with some killer suede pieces and amazing bags, these outfits are perfect for fall.
These leather leggings are less than $40, and the pink heels are just over $100! Pieces like these are so versatile for all seasons!

10 Jackets for Fall

I love clothes. You probably figured that since I write a fashion blog, but seriously. There's just something about fall and the cooling of the weather that really motivates me to put effort into my appearance and buy all the clothes.
Although I perused the malls a couple of weeks ago and didn't find anything I "had to have" the internet has really been hitting it out of the park. The one problem? I'm a poor college student, so I only buy like, <5% of what I put in my cart.
Never the less, I love browsing the web, and especially other blogs this time of year, for some fashion inspiration!

Here are 10 amazing jackets that you need for fall:
That Barbour jacket is almost $100 off! What a steal!
