Menswear || Outfit of the Day

The weather is slowly thawing out in Chicago, but I've been running low on outfit inspiration in the mornings. The best solution? Taking a page from menswear. I remember my dad wearing a shirt like this when I was younger, and when I saw it in the store at G.H. Bass last year, I knew I needed one. The flannel material makes it super warm and the chambray and grosgrain details on the sleeve and collar give it a feminine touch. By pairing it with dark denim and riding boots you tone down the shirts dressier feel.
Of course I paired the blouse with my Longchamp and classic wayfarer style sunglasses, both perfect for running errands all day.
This shirt is no longer available, but I found a similar women's cut at LL Bean and this men's fit one from Brook's Brothers.

Rent the Runway: Prom 2015

The prom panic is an epidemic that has hit my school hard. It seems as through every other word out of everyone's mouth is about prom, and it's still more than a month away!

Prom can get extremely expensive with dress, shoes, hair, limo, tickets, sweatshirts, and not to mention the entire weekend after prom.
One of the ways to avoid spending too much on a dress you will wear once, is by utilizing Rent the Runway. Rent the Runway allows you to rent a designer gown for a fraction of the price for a few days. You can even choose two sizes to try if you're in-between, for the price of one! (probably my favorite aspect) They even offer the option of a second style with a significantly discounted price!

(excuse the black, white, and pink fetish here, I'm not really sure what happened)

It's so classy and also comes in Navy!

twelve days later......

So I know I've been more than slightly  absent this past week, and to be honest I don't really have an excuse other than the fact that I forgot. With blogging, if I'm on a roll, I'm on a roll and nothing get know me off, but If I do fall off the wagon, it takes me forever to get back on the horse and start blogging again. Wow that was a lot of metaphors.

Recently I've been obsessed with sports whether that be Major League and High School hockey,  NCAA basketball, or my brother's hockey playoffs.

Somehow, I've let March Madness take over my life. I'm really not sure how I let this happen, especially because I wasn't aware that there were rankings when I chose my bracket.

On Trend: Two Piece Prom Dresses

One trend I've been seeing a lot recently and surprisingly loving, is two piece prom dresses.
I first saw this trend back in the fall when a few designers released their spring preview and I fell in love with some of them!
I tried a few dresses on this weekend and found some that I really love!

Here are a few I think are to die for:

Tip Tuesday: Shopping the Boy's Department

As I said a few weeks ago, I've been trying to focus on buying more quality pieces as opposed to quantity, but high quality clothing can get pretty expensive. One way I like to "combat" this struggle is by shopping the boy's section. I posted yesterday about my new Ralph Lauren half zip, that I purchased from the boys section for a fraction of what it would be in the mens or women department!

There are a couple of things you have to watch out for when shopping boys:
+ Always look at the size chart. You might automatically think to order the largest size, but a boys XL may be larger than you need!
+ If you have the option, try it on. Boys clothing, and children's clothing in general, can often have a boxier fit than women's. Try on each piece to make sure that it still flatters you and fits the way you want it to.

So you tell me: do you ever shop the boy's section?

Ralph Lauren Quarter Zip

Hey guys! I picked up a quarter-zip from Ralph Lauren boys yesterday and am wearing it right now and boy is it comfy! I should be posting an OOTD with it soon now that daylight savings makes it light out when I get home!
Here are some more comfy quarter zips to check out!

Friday 5 - What's going on

I had pumpkin pie for breakfast and I have no regrets. Shawn won his hockey playoff game last night and moved up to the next round, so my mom baked him a pumpkin pie. I love reaping the benefits of Shawn's triumphs.

In other news, I fell asleep on the kitchen floor last night annotating Hamlet. There's a heating vent right in the middle of our kitchen, so I was sitting on top of it and somehow ended up laying across the floor. My back is not happy to say the least. Also I forgot my phone at home today, so my morning has not been the best.

I'm getting a gel manicure today after school with Jessica and I'm really excited. The last time I got a gel manicure was before spring break my sophomore year and I loved it! I got a hot pink color, but this time I think I'll get a red or maybe a nude color!

It's supposed to be getting warmer this weekend, and I all I can think about it Chino shorts and Jack Rogers. Is anybody else feeling this struggle?

I'm getting really excited for St.Patrick's Day. Chicago is notorious for having an epic St.Patty's day celebration, and I'm having trouble deciding what I want to wear! I'm thinking of sticking to a navy and green theme.

Cable Knit and Tortoise Shell || Outfit of the Day

As you can see, it's freezing and snowy here in Chicago. And these pictures were taken before the ice/rain storm Tuesday. Easiest was to stay warm: cable knit sweaters. I got this sweater for Christmas and I was so excited because I had been looking for a cream cable knit sweater. Pairing it with dark wash jeans and my favorite monogramed rain boots make for the perfect cozy outfit.
I thought the tortoise shell earrings and watch would be the perfect detail to liven up this outfit.
These boots are no longer available, but they were from Land's End last year. I love wearing rain boots when it snows so much that my bean boots are too short.

It was all Yellow

Maybe it's just the fact that I'm yearning for spring, but I've been loving the color yellow recently. Last night when I was searching through pinterest and I saw the Lilly Pulitzer phone case below and fell in love. I love the bright colors and the twist on the classic print. I think it's the perfect case for spring and summer!

This dress is adorable too! I especially love the neck line.

Such a cute and inexpensive blouse!
I've always wanted a pair of bright yellow chino shorts! I think they'd look adorable with a white top and some navy blue Jack Rogers!

A yellow maxi dress is the perfect combo for spring!

I made these today and they're currently sitting on my counter cooling and I can't wait to try one!

Days Off

Days off from school are one of my favorite things. It makes me feel like I have so much more time to get things done. For example, I had school off yesterday as well as today, and I feel like I can get so much done! Yesterday, I went to the gym with my mom, caught up with a friend I hadn't seen in forever, and did some *gasp* shooting for fashion posts for the blog, (more to come on that later) and did lots of laundry. Having a day off is often just what I needed to catch up on things I need to do.

February Favorites

Hi, it's me, coming out from under that rock I was hiding under for practically the whole month of February. being sick last week really put a damper on blogging, but I plan on coming back with full force this month. How is it already March!? I feel like it was just new years eve! March holds spring break, and St.Patrick's day, two of my favorite parts of the year. The weather may even get a little better, but lets not jump to conclusions here.

Without further ado, here are my February favorites:

+Striped Turtleneck (On sale now!)
This turtleneck from Gap is so soft and versatile I have it in the Navy and White stripe and I think it looks adorable paired with my neon coral vest!
via my instagram
+Monoram Block Necklace
I've worn this necklace almost everyday since I got it in the mail and hardly ever take it off. It's stainless steel, so it won't tarnish or irritate your skin! I've ordered from this Easy store before and have always had great experiences!

+Pearl Earring Studs
In addition to wearing my monogram necklace everyday, I've worn my pearl earring studs almost everyday this month! They're timeless, classy, and go with almost everything!

+Cranberry Juice
Okay this is kind of a weird favorite, but I've been drinking cranberry juice almost everyday. I got up Diet Coke for Lent this year, so I've been drinking cranberry juice as a replacement and loving it!

I purchased this lip product to wear to Turnabout last year and have found myself wearing it more and more this year! It's not sticky, and this color stays on your lips well with minimal touchups!
I'm wearing it in my most recent instagram!

+New Girl
Hey girl! I'm obsessed with this show! I'm slightly ashamed that I watched two seasons in two days while I was sick, but it's too cute not to love!
