January Favorites

Alright. To be honest, I feel really guilty about not posting yesterday, so I may end up writing another post today and scheduling it so that it looks like I posted it on Thursday. That's dedication people.
Anyways, I thought I'd share some of my favorites from this month because to be honest I had a lot. Get ready for a lot of reading.

Beauty:
NYX Dream Catcher Dusk til Dawn Palette
I received the NYX "Dream Catcher Dusk til Dawn"  palette for my Birthday from one of my good friends and have been using it daily since! I love the range of colors from light and everyday to smokier colors that would be perfect for a night out! It's similar to my Urban Decay Naked 1 palette, but it has a much more affordable price tag and has comparable quality. Yay for saving money!

My mom picked this mascara up from the store last week when she saw it was on sale and I've been really liking it! It's a nice change from my usual Maybelline Falsies and I'm surprisingly pleased by it! Not too dramatic for every day and it doesn't flake all over my under eyes.

I talk about this more in my Everyday Makeup post, but this stuff is a lifesaver. Fo real. Highly recommend. Also, I have what I would describe as combination skin because my skin is dry but typically oily and I like the matte formula. I haven't tried the original version, but I don't really find the need to.

I'm not going to lie. I feel kind of guilty for liking this perfume so much, but it's a perfect everyday scent for me! I typically don't go for very sweet or powdery scents, but I really enjoy this one and think that the scent lasts quite a while which is always a plus for long days at school or work.

Jewelry:
Holy smokes. These earrings are my favorite (that's why I'm including them in my January favorites, see what I did there?). I got these from my parents for my birthday and they ROCK. They are a bit heavy though, so just beware of that. My ears have been particularly sensitive this winter, so I had a little bit of trouble, but it's nothing a little Neosporin can't fix!

From my Instagram

I had to do a whole post on this brand I'm so obsessed. So much love.
From my Instagram

Fashion:
White "Low" Converse
Can you call converse fashion? Well I'm going to. They're comfortable, cute, and all-season shoes. I'm fairly confident these will never go out of style.

Everything Else:
I got this as a gift and it's really cute and functional!

Peanut Butter
Yum. I really enjoy eating this out of the jar with a spoon. Fun times.

Music

This is what I've been listening to lately. The most random mix of music ever? Yes. Do I still love it? Yes.

Letting Go & Looking Forward

So here's the deal: my High School is crazy and second semester didn't officially start until yesterday. Yes, January 26th. Anyways, I feel like whenever the new semester starts, it's time to ket go of whatever happened last semester. I have trouble starting over at the new year just because I know that the semester isn't over yet, but once it is, I always feel better.
I think that learning to let go is a really important skill. Although I've mastered it in some parts of my life aka school and my appearance, I'm not the person to ask when it comes to grudges or relationships/crushes. I'm also a bit of a type A control freak, so learning to not have control is a really difficult thing for me.
When it comes to school, I've learned that once a grade is in, there is really no changing it. You can't dwell on last semester's grade so much so that it's affecting the new semester. If you did something wrong (like I did #APStatistics) look at what you did, learn from the experience, and change. Act like Elsa and let it go.

Looking forward, I really hope to kick ass this semester and achieve some goals that I've set for myself. The semester is going well so far, and I hope to keep it on the upswing. I really only have February, March, and April left of high school, so I hope to make the best of it. I can't do that by concentrating on the past, so here we are, looking forward to these next four months and hoping to make the best out of them.
I've struggled to find the balance of work and play in the past, and this semester I'm determined to perfect it before I leave for college and am on my own. Also I hope to figure out what the heck I want to do with my life because currently all I want to do is watch Scandal and Parks and Recreation.

And with that, I leave you all.

In Between the Lines

I've recently been hoping to get back in to journaling. I've journal in the past, mostly sporadically through out High School, but I've never been very consistent with it. Blogging often serves of a bit of a photo journal for me, but I really would like to look back at things that happened daily. I think the best motivation for journaling would be finding an adorable journal. I think I'll end up either purchasing a Maybooks journal just because they're so adorable!
I love this one!

And this one is so adorable too!

Here are so more that I love:
So tell me: Do you journal?

Buttercup's Bookshelf

I'd like to start out by apologizing for the lack of posts at the end of last week. I had my (hopefully) last set of High School finals last week and by the time I realized that I hadn't posted anything, it was Friday night! I hope to redeem myself this first day of the new semester by sharing what's currently on my bedside table waiting to be read. I always seem to have more time to read at the beginning of the semester, so I hope to get through some of these before the heavy load hits.

I plan on doing reviews on some of these books as I finish them, so keep an eye out for them!

As you can see I'm on a bit of a law kick and spent most of my weekend catching up on "How to Get Away with Murder" and reading Law 101.

I hope to resume my regular posting schedule this week of posting everyday at 8:30 am Central Time!
Check back tomorrow to see a new post!

Tip Tuesday Roundup

Okay. So back in 2012 (woah how is that already three years ago?!) I used to write these "Tip Tuesday" posts almost every Tuesday. Some of them were very popular while others got lost in the shuffle. Some of these posts however, had pretty good tips in my opinion - especially for my sophomore year writing skills, talk about embarrassing.

So here you are: The Tip Tuesday Roundup. I'm bringing it back.

Okay. Enjoy. I guess. you may not. I'm not trying to peer pressure you.
Okay. Good bye.

Current Car Music

Hey everyone, I hope y'all (am I allowed to say that if I'm not from the south?) had a fantastic weekend!
Today I thought I'd share the CD currently playing in my car. I got the Taylor Swift 1989 CD and Arctic Monkeys AM CD for Christmas and couldn't wait to put them to use!

Check out old music posts here, here, & here!

Friday 5 {5 Coffees I Love}

It's no secret that I love coffee.
It's really becoming a problem.
Today, I had three cups of coffee.
As a result, I'm writing this blog post at 12AM with no intention of going to bed soon.
Poor choice? Yes.

moving along.

In other news, I earned Starbucks GOLD CARD STATUS today.
Imma Pro.

This weeks Friday 5 is all about the good stuff: COFFEE
Here are five of my faves (in no particular order):

1.
French Roast K-Cups
These are my go to for every morning. I make the travel size and spoon in a little sugar and a splash of milk and I'm good to go!
I've been using this travel mug from Starbucks everyday (S/O to Alex for the best secret santa gift ever!), and it's keep my coffee HOT for two hours! It's the perfect temperature when I go to drink it everyday at 8:30.
This is my favorite (Tully's Extra Bold French Roast) but they stopped carrying it at our grocery store :( If only I can convince my mom to buy the 96 pack from Costco...

2.
Cinnamon Dolce Latte *nonfat*
I die. If you've never ordered this at good 'ole Starbs, please do so. You can thank me later. No, actually, thank me later down below in the comments. I want some recognition people! I feel like the CDL i the unsung hero of Starbucks. No, really.

3.
Dunkin Donuts Coconut Coffee

I do not know who this man is. Man, wherever you are, Hello.
Although nothing can top the daily coconut coffee at the Aston Waikiki in Honolulu Hawaii back in 2012, this comes close. It's regular coffee with sugar free coconut creamer and it's divine. I've yet to try it with the Dunkin Dark Roast, but I can't wait considering I'm a coffee snob and only like to drink darker roasts.

4.
Caramel Macciato
They can do no wrong. I'm sorry if you disagree, but that is where you are wrong.

5.
Whatever kind of coffee from home with CoffeeMate Peppermint Mocha creamer. So good, yet so, so bad.

____
And so I ask you kind reader, what is your favorite kind of coffee?
Comment down below and let me know!

**Also, if anyone knows of a good hand cream, I could use suggestions. Home-gurl's hands are nasty.**

Everyday Makeup Routine

Hey guys! Today I thought I'd share with you my everyday makeup routine that I've been wearing to school recently! It's super quick, probably only takes me around 6 minutes, and is just the right amount of makeup for school in my opinion!

For my face makeup, I've been using my BareMinerals Matte foundation (in fair) with a huge kabuki brush from Ecotools. Then, I usually apply my Avon Glow bronzer in light sands all over my face to give me some color since I'm basically snow white.  This is a matte bronzer (no sparkle) so It's really great for adding color as well as contouring! Lastly, I tend to switch up my blush every week or so, but recently I've been using my Benefit Hervana blush. This gives me the perfect rosy glow for winter without adding too much glitter/ sparkle. We don't want to be looking like disco balls now do we?

For my eyes, I like to keep it really simple. I prime my eyes with Urban Decay Primer Potion to ensure that my eyeshadow doesn't smudge on my oil-prone eyelids. If there's one product for me to recommend you splurge on, it's this. This stuff is my holy grail and I can't use eyeshadow without it! For eyeshadow, I've been using Stila Kitten all over my lid, and a TINY dab of Mac's Satin Taupe in the outer corner. I'm talking minuscule people, this is school. For mascara I switch off between Maybelline The Falsies, and Falsies Flared

For my lips, my go-to recently has been the Stila Lip Glazes. I have four in the colors Majesty, Cupcake, Apricot, and Grapefruit. I got the gift set pictured below that includes three lip glazes and the kitten eyeshadow as well as some BaubleBar goodies! I also love the Revlon Lip Butters and Maybelline Dr.Rescue lip balms.

I can do a post on my all-time favorite makeup products and palettes if you guys would be interested too! If you have any questions or want to see review on specific products, feel free to comment down below or message me on tumblr!

Brand Spotlight: Alex and Ani

If you know me in real life (or have been following my bog for a while) you would know that I have an obsession. That obsession is Alex and Ani.
This all started back in 2014 (woah). I had heard of Alex and Ani before, and seen a handful of people wearing their bracelets over the years. when it came time to make my birthday list, I included the Claddagh bracelet and received it from my mom and dad (thanks guys). A few months later, I received the Celtic Knot bracelet for being Annie's Confirmation Sponsor. I was extremely excited to expand my collection, let the stacking begin!
from this post
Now, everything was fine and dandy until this past Christmas when my collection exploded. I somehow ended up with seven bracelets by my birthday and one pair of earrings. Hey, I'm not complaining! ;)

Alex and Ani Bracelets are lightweight, and stretch to fit over your wrist, so they aren't going to slide off of your hand every ten seconds like normal bangles would. All of my bracelets except for the birthstone bracelet are in the Silver tones, and I love pairing them with Lily and Laura style bracelets as pictured above!

You can buy the jewelry off of their website: AlexandAni.com or major department stores such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdales!

Fair Isle || Outfit of the Day

I'd first like to start by thanking my twelve year old brother for getting dressed and coming out in the cold with me to take these pictures. It was less then 10˚F and less than 0˚ with wind chill. The things I do for this blog, I tell ya. These were taken last Thursday on our second snow day. It's a lot harder to take pictures for outfit posts when it's dark when you leave for school in the morning, and when you get home from school!
I conveniently cut my head out of most of these pictures due to the fact that I'm making really weird faces in all of them. I saved you from some nightmares. Trust me.

Eighteen Years

I turn eighteen tomorrow. Can I believe it? No. I really honestly can't. It seems like just yesterday I was writing the same thing about my 17th birthday. If you ask my parents how they feel about it, you'd think I'm asking how it's possible for a five year old to be elected president for example. Eighteen marks the entrance into adulthood in the United States. I can vote, sign waivers for myself, and finally have no curfew (I never get to finish movies at friends houses!).

My plans for tomorrow include bringing bagels to my Religious Ed. Class that I teach, going to dance class, getting my ears double pierced with my cousins, and having dinner with my family.

Every year for my birthday, we always have homemade birthday cake and ice cream, and dinner as a family. With my birthday being so early in January, I like to think that I'll be on winter break for my birthday in years to come, but it's also saddens me a little to think that this is the last birthday I'll be celebrating "at home."

On Trend: Pendant Necklaces

Hey Everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful morning! Today, I thought I'd share with you a trend that I'm currently loving: long pendant necklaces. They seem to be all over the blog-o-sphere recently, as we enter into the coldest season of the year (They canceled school yesterday due to extreme cold!) necklaces can be a great way to spice up your warmest sweaters!

I feel like I need all of them. Does anybody feel this way? I don't think I'm the only one.

Here's some outfit inspiration via Pinterest!
You should probably follow me on there. I'm not saying you need to, but I'm not saying you don't need to. Ya feel me?

As you can see, tassels and Kendra Scott pretty much dominates the long necklace scene, but really, who's complaining? I have a sinking suspicion that I'll be using a good amount of my birthday money on these necklaces!

Making and Saving Money in High School

Out of all the posts I've ever written, I believe that this is the post I'm most qualified to write. Okay, maybe not that qualified, but I do currently have two jobs, and I've worked one of them for three years of High School, so I know something.

Young grasshopper: read, and you will learn.

First step to making money: finding a job.

I know plenty of my friends babysit. My best friend actually makes bank babysitting basically her entire block. I never got into the "babysitting circle" so it's not really a form of income for me besides the occasional job. If you can land a stable babysitting job or even better, a nannying job in the summer, more power to ya!
Personally, I got my first job when my orthodontist was looking for a new sterilizer to work for a couple hours a few days after school and some weekends. I've been working at this job since October of 2012 and really enjoy it. It has flexible hours and I basically get paid to sanitize things. Score!

Since I started working at this job so early (I was 15) I did need to get a work permit from my school/state to work. It sounds like a big deal, but it's really not. It's just a few signatures from your parents, employer and yourself.

My second job I found this summer when one of my friends sisters was leaving for college and needed to find someone to fill her position hostessing at a restaurant. I was nervous about this job at first, but ended up loving it! I always look forward to dressing up and going to the restaurant.

Finding a job as a high schooler can difficult, but you just have to know where to look. Jobs where you can "create your own schedule" such as cleaning or "volunteer" type of jobs can be helpful, but hard to come by. Many grocery stores hire at 16, as well as Justice, and Kohls. If you want to work in retail, my best tip would be to look up a map of your local mall and visit each store you're interested in's website to see if they have openings. You can also check your local park district and country clubs for openings working as lifeguards or other summer positions.

The second step to all of this would be saving the money.

It was a rude awakening to me when my parents told me that I would be required to put 50% of each of my paychecks into savings. I didn't realize that next year when I'm away at college, I may not have a flow of income via a job, so spending money would be hard to come by. Sorority dues are not cheap y'all! Realizing this made me feel much better about putting such a large percent of my money away. It's only a few months away anyway!

One tactic that I have been using to save money recently is to choose a more extravagant purchase, in my case, an iPad Air, and thinking about it before I spend money on something such as Chipotle *guilty* or a new makeup brush for example. I ask myself "this ten dollars (darn you Chipotle for having such expensive burritos) would put me ten dollars or 4% closer to buying my iPad!" Or you can think about it this way: a Kendra Scott Necklace is only less then 8 trips to Chipotle!

Saving money can be really hard. Trust me. I just looked at the total amount of money I made in 2014 and how much is in my checking account and cried. I kid you not young grasshopper. It's worth it though. It's not like you're throwing you're money away. It's in a safe place gaining (minuscule amounts) of interest and you'll be able to access it eventually anyway!

If you have any questions, feel free e-mail me, message me on tumblr, or comment down below!
