Reflecting on 2015

I cannot believe that tomorrow we will be starting a new year. My dad and I were talking this morning, and he can't either. It's just something about this year that seemed like it moved at warp speed. It feels like yesterday I was laying in a hospital bed in May, or walking across the stage at graduation only a couple of days later! I can't wait to start this year out fresh! I even have somewhat of some theme songs picked out. They came on the radio in a row yesterday on the way to work and i couldn't help but sing along and thing of all the success waiting for me in 2016! (following very hard work of course)

I plan on doing a year recap like a did last year (so fun) in the next couple of days, but for now, I want to review my 2015 resolutions and how I did.

1. Blog More
I was a little better at blogging consistently in 2014, but I hope to do a better job of keeping up this year. (not off to a great start. whoops!)
I definitely blogged more this year! I fell off the bandwagon a little bit this month, but I ended up posting almost double the amount of posts from 2014, and I feel like they were all of quality which is very important to me!

2. Save More
There are a few things I'm saving up for now, and I'm really determined to save more of my money for when I'm away at college.
I think I did okay with this. I ended up splurging a few times this year like on my FitBit Charge HR or my new MacBook Pro, but I think I will be much better about money this year.

3. Make New Friends
~and keep the old~ Wow Girl Scouts. I hope to make so many new friends at college that will last a life time. It's hard to believe that I year from now, I'll have completed an entire semester.
I made a few really good friends at college, which I think is very important. I'm close with my roommate, and we have a nice core group at school. I hope to meet even more people in 2016!

4. Let Loose
I'm definitely an introvert, so these last few months of High School with Prom and Turnabout dance, and my first semester of College, I want to make sure I'm not holding back just because I'm scared. I want to say "Yes" to more things.
I did a lot of very fun things this year like jump in lakes at Prom (above) or go tailgating at UofL, but this year I really   want to branch out.

5. Pay More Attention to my Health
The month of December 2014, I had quite a few different ailments at extremely inconvenient times (which would explain my abrupt halt in posting). In 2015 I want to eat better, sleep better, and be an all around healthier person. We've all heard that one before right?
What a joke. 2015 was a rough year for the Arrigo family. I was in the hospital for 8 days, just 1 month after my brother split his chin open and got it stitched back together, my mom was in the ER in October and ended up having an 6 hour surgery in November. We're all "gucci" now, and I feel like I didn't get sick as much in 2015, so that counts right?

What I Got for Christmas 2015

I sat down to film this as a video, and halfway through, my mom asked what I was doing. When I told her, she replied that I perhaps should only share a few of my favorite gifts. This snapped me back into reality. Don't get me wrong, those videos are some of my absolute favorites to watch year round, and I love when the roll in to my subscription box the week following Christmas, but have you ever considered just how weird it is? I felt very odd filming it this year for some reason, but I still want to share, so below it a widget of some of my favorite gifts I received this year!

I was very fortunate this year to receive many useful gifts and things off my wishlist as well as some suprises. Going along with what I said above, Christmas isn't about the gifts, but spending time with your family and being grateful for your family and faith.

New Year, New Beauty Products

I'm not sure why, but recently I've been obsessed with perusing the Sephora website.
I love asking for "higher-end" makeup for my birthday, because it's not something that I would typically spend money on myself, but I would still love to try.
One thing that I'm particularly drawn to if the Ambient Light palette by Hourglass. Maybe it's all the Keeping up with the Kardashians I've been watching, but I feel like I need it.

10 New Years Resolutions

So, clearly I've neglected the blog quite a bit this month, more than I have in a while. I also failed at 12 Days of Vlogmas. I filmed most days, but I never edited or uploaded them. Trust me, you didn't miss anything.

Today I thought that I would share my New Year's resolutions:

1. Go Out More
In college, you're posed with so many opportunities to go out and socialize, I passed up too many this past semester and want to take advantage of this crazy time in my life to meet new people and experience new things.

2. Drink More Water
Pretty self explanatory. This should be on everyone's list!

3. Get Better at Focusing
I have the attention span of a newborn squirrel when it comes to things like studying, or working on papers. I want to increase my attention span so things like three page papers won't take 12 hours to draft this semester.

4. Don't Crumple my Napkin
This is a terrible habit that I've always had and I hate it! I think it's so disgusting to have your napkin all crumpled up at the end of a meal, but I can't help it! This year I hope to break the habit.

5. Workout at least 1X per Week
If mothers who have two kids find time to work out for 90 minutes a day, the least I can do is go to the gym once a week.

6. Try New Things and Blog About Them
I'm a very safe person who doesn't like to branch out (see #1), this year I hope I can experience new things, whether that be by trying new foods, taking a new job, or going to a party.

7. Take Active Steps to Grow my Blog
I feel like I'm always just sitting around waiting for people to come read my blog. I think I've finally realized that you need to take active steps to get the word out there and improve it in order for that to happen. This year, I want to work on branding and marketing my blog in order for it to grow even more.

8. Drink More Coffee

9. Wear More Lipstick
This is similar to the "branching out" point. And, it's fun!

10. Stick to this Savings Plan
Saving is very important, and I think that in being only a year away from my twenties (gasp!) I should start saving, even if it is only a small amount each week. I think that this is a reasonable and attainable savings plan.

I'm Coming Home

Tell the world I'm coming home!

I'm heading home back to Chicago for the next (almost) month!
I have been a little absent this week, but I was super busy finishing up finals and packing up all of my things!

We're driving home this morning from Louisville to Chicago and I couldn't be happier to return to the North Shore!

Until next time!

Winter Break Bucket List

I cannot believe that in only 48 short hours, I will be on winter break! I'm so very excited to spend a ton of time with my family, my dog, and to see all of my friends from home!
I've compiled a list of things that I hope to accomplish while I'm home, I've listed ten here, but I spared you some of the more boring items such as whitening my teeth and various blog tasks.
Background image via

I hope that I can accomplish all of these things while I am on break, and of course finish up the rest of my 19 before 19 list, as my birthday is only 33 days away!

Be sure to stay up to date by following me on my social media outlets:

Especially on my youtube channel, as I'm going to try and do "12 Days of Vlogmas" starting on December 14th!

2015 Beauty Favorites

As the year is coming to a close, as hard to believe as the is, I thought that I would share some of my favorite beauty products that I discovered during this year.

Witch Hazel: This is something that my mom introduced me to. When I was in the hospital this spring, I wasn't able to leave my bed, so I could wash my face in the sink. My mom suggested Witch Hazel to keep me feeling a little bit more clean. I use this more as a toner now, and I it's really helping to balance out my skin and control oil through out the day.

Sweet Tea and Lemon Face Mask: I blogged about this mask a few months back and still love it. I'm actually almost out of my bottle and will need to pick up another one the next time I'm at Ulta. It's very inexpensive and always leaves my skin feeling fresh, clean, and soft!

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark: I've worn this nail polish almost exclusively the last three months. It's the perfect color for me, as it's very dark, but not quite black. I'm currently wearing a more festive red, but Lincoln Park After Dark is certainly an all-time favorite. There's also something about the OPI brush that makes it very easy to apply, and always creates the perfect shape on my nails.

Mac "Chatterbox" Lipstick: I picked this up this summer, and loved wearing it the the warmer months. It's a little bit of a brighter pink, and not something I would typically reach for, but it's fun to reach for when you're wearing a more monochromatic outfit.
I'm wearing it in this ootd:

Covergirl "Shimmering Sands": I picked up this eyeshadow trio on a whim at Ulta this summer because Lord knows I need more neutral eyeshadows (*not*) and have used it much more than I thought I would. It's so small and compact which makes it perfect for bringing with me when I spend the weekend at my Aunt's house, and also great for throwing on before class in the mornings.

Mac "Painterly" Paint Pot: I've had this for years now and fell back in love with it this year. I used to use my "Urban Decay Primer Potion" daily, but have switched to this. I find that my eyelids haven't been as oily recently and I don't need such a heavy duty primer unless I'm going out. I also have very veiny eyelids, so this really helps to create a nice base for my shadows.

Stila Lip Glazes: I now have four of these, and they are my absolute favorites. They're so easy to throw on, and they're just the right consistency. I also find that they're fairly reasonably priced compared to lots of other high-end makeup brands and even "drugstore" brands.

Friday 5 - Favorites

Standup comedy on Netflix
This has been my biggest favorite this week. After being on a "Parks and Recreation" kick over thanksgiving break, I started watching Aziz Ansari's shows on Netflix and have now seen all of them.  I've also seen the most recent John Mulaney show, but prefer Aziz's.

It's Vlogmas!
If you're unfamiliar, Vlogmas is when Youtuber's post a daily vlog everyday in December leading up to Christmas. AKA I sit at my computer all day watching them.
This year so far I'm watching Caitlin, Alex and Michael, and Jenna!

It's time for finals here at Bellarmine and I've been drinking more coffee than I'd like to admit. Not because I need it to stay awake, just because I like the taste!
My Keurig makes it so much easier!
I've been loving these:

Christmas Music
It's officially accecptable to be listening to Christmas music, even though my roommate can testify that I've been listening to it for weeks now.
Here's my spotify playlist:
I also love the Bing Crosby(Holiday) Pandora Station!

Going Home
I'll hopefully be en route to the North Shore this time next week!
It's incredible that I'm already finished with an entire semester of college! I feel like I blinked and it's over.
If anybody has a website that they use to get last minute inexpensive flights (oxymoron, I know) please please please e-mail me! I'm trying to get from Louisville to Chicago next week, but I missed the window of good prices!

I hope everyone has a fun and relaxing weekend!

Gift Guide: For the College Girl

Today I thought I would share a gift guide for college girls. I have a ton of these products, and love them!

Spirit Jersey - Keurig - Bath Wrap - Phone Case - Wristlet - Beats (on sale 1/2 off!)

Spirit Jersey: I have a couple of these and absolutely live in them! They're a bit of a splurge, but they're a great gift to receive!

Keurig: I've said it once, I'll say it again: I love my Keurig and I definitely save not buying coffee and Einstein's everyday.

Bath Wrap: My roommate has one of these and I think it's super practical. Would be great to pair with a fun bottle of body wash!

Phone Case: If you don't have a Kate Spade phone case, do you really have an iPhone? (Just kidding, I'm boring and use this one)

Wristlet: I have one of these and it's so useful! Mine is from Lilly too and has an ID pocket on the outside, making it super convenient to swipe into the dorms or lunch!

Beats: My dad game me a pair of these when I was home for fall break and I love them! I keep a pair of Apple earbuds in my backpack, but these are great for watching Netflix in your bed, or when you know you'll be in the library studying all day.

Ugg Slippers: The mini height of Uggs are my favorite, because they're so easy to slip on to run to get your laundry or a late night snack. The "short" height is also cute.

Clarisonic: I think this is perfect for a more extravagant gift. I've heard they really help to clear up your skin and would be great for any girl.

iPhone Running Armband: For the girls that actually go to the gym.

Gigi Pants: By far my most worn pants in my closet. These are super comfortable with a sweatshirt, but can look pulled together with a sweater and boots. Definitely worth the splurge.

Crossbody: Perfect for nights out. Longchamps are equally as loved (I have the bilberry color and use it daily).

Book: I've yet to read this book by Mindy Kaling, but I read her last one and loved it!

Light-up Makeup Mirror: I have one of these, and I love it for putting on my makeup in the morning, and is extra helpful for taking my contacts out at night when we already have the lights off! Great price on Amazon and a perfect gift for any girl!

Weekender Bag: I'm still on the lookout for the "perfect" weekender bag, but this one is adorable and would be perfect for those weekend trips to your friends at another school!

Would you add anything else?

Black Friday Shopping || Outfit of the Day

I made Annie take some pictures of me while out Black Friday Shopping (these were pre-mall crowds), so I though I would share today!

It was a gorgeous day here in Louisville, and my cousins Annie and Rose came Black Friday shopping with me this year. Although we didn't get to the mall until about 2pm, there were still plenty of crowds to be had! Mix this with severely low blood sugar all around, and we had a pretty miserable time.
We went to Oxmoor mall and I managed to pick up one of these (a total life-saver!) from Von Maur and this pair of shorts for 25% off from Dick's Sporting Goods. I also ordered two cashmere sweaters from Macy's that should be coming in the mail soon!

The Season of Giving

This post is a complete contrast from this morning's post, and I'm writing it quite honestly because I feel guilty about posting my Christmas Wishlist on Giving Tuesday.
I was inspired while reading Sydney's post this morning in bed and decided to share some of my favorite experiences of giving.

For the past few years, at least 8, in my religious education class, we would always make pillows that would be taken to an inner city hospital holiday party.
This was always one of my favorite classes of the year and loved that we were able to continue the tradition after we were confirmed and began teaching our own classes!
For many who attend the party, these pillows are the only gifts that they will receive this year, and it's always amazing to hear some of the stories after the holiday break!
(Photo from the first year we made pillows with our own class: 2012!)

Volunteering at BUILD
There are few things more valuable than time.
If you aren't able to make a financial contribution to an organization, a great way to give is to volunteer your time.
This spring, my dad and I had the opportunity to volunteer at BUILD, an organization on the South Side of Chicago that creates after-school programs geared towards teens to help keep them involved and off the streets.

Even if you are unable to get out and help, or make a financial contribution, even small acts of kindness are appreciated! Leaving some candy for your roommate as a surprise, or sending a card to one of your friends away at college can make someones day just a little bit brighter!
Buying the "perfect" gift for people for the holidays can also be extremely satisfying, and is another form of giving!

My Christmas Wishlist

It's hard to believe that it's already the first of December! I feel like I say that every month, but it's especially true this month. I can't believe there are only 31 more days of 2015!
It may sound crazy, but I work on my Christmas list all year. Although Christmas isn't about the presents, rather the birth of Jesus Christ, it certainly has become a big part of the holiday!
I find that keeping a running list all years helps me to remember some of the small stuff I think of through out the year. I always like to see what other people are asking for for the holidays, so I thought I would share what I'm asking for.

This LL Bean jacket is at the top of my list this year. Although it gets fairly cold in Louisville, a heavy winter coat isn't the most practical for trekking up and down the hills here. I think this black quilted jacket would be perfect for this winter. Paired with these gorgeous black monogrammed gloves and monogrammed blackwatch scarf, I'd be the warmest girl on campus!

Clothing wise, I'm aiming to build up my wardrobe with classic and well-made pieces. These cashmere crewnecks from Macy's seem like a great deal, and the cable knit sweater is from J.Crew and comes in a ton of colors as well! I also love these pullovers from Ralph Lauren Boys. I have one in size large and love wearing it with my PJ's and button down's alike, and it's much more affordable than the women's and men's versions.

Beauty wise, I've been wanting to try It's a Ten and J'adore (by Dior) for years now. J'adore is a scent I've always been drawn to, and I'm in the market for a new everyday scent. I've also been wanting a Clarisonic for a while as I've heard they do wonders for acne-prone skin!

Technology wise, as soon as the iPhone lightning dock came out, I knew I had to have one for my desk. I think it is super functional, and would also look great on my nightstand at home! Lastly, I'd love an armband to wear while I'm running outside as I'm about to start training for a race early next year!

I want to know what you're asking for for Christmas this year!

My Claddagh Ring

The Claddagh symbol is a one that symbolizes friendship, love, and loyalty. It is an important part of Irish culture, and a very important part of my family. All of my Aunts on my mothers side wear their claddagh rings everyday, and my both of my mothers parents did as well. I was given my Claddagh for High School Graduation from my parents and haven't taken it off since. (I didn't get the ring until mid July, as my mom had a hard time finding the "perfect one")
Even on my most casual of days when I'm wearing leggings and an oversized t-shirt, you can bet I'm wearing my claddagh ring. My ring looks almost exactly like my mom's ring. I say almost because mine hasn't been run over a car like hers was when she was a teenager.
My ring is solid gold and we bought it from a jeweler, so you can't purchase this exact ring, but this one from Lord & Taylor is almost exactly the same! My mom actually purchased this one for me, but she decided to get one from the jeweler instead, because she wanted the band to be more substantial.

I'm very excited to go home for winter break and get my ring polished! My ring has a fairly high karat so it gets easily scuffed, so I can't wait for it to be extra sparkly once it's polished.
My ring is very important to me because not only does is connect me further to my parents because they gave it to me, but it also helps me feel even more connected to my whole mother's side of he family, and my Irish culture.
It is customary to wear the ring in a specific direction based on your relationship status. For example, I am not in a relationship, so I wear my ring with the heart facing outward, but my mother and aunt's hearts are not open so they wear the heart pointing in!

I love this photo of my Aunt Linda and my mom, because you can see them both wearing their rings!

I also have a Claddagh necklace which I received from my parents for my golden (10th) birthday. I love my necklace and have worn it often over the last 8 (almost 9!) years. My necklace is also gold, so it has held up beautifully, as you can see in the photo below of me from graduation.
Another reason my necklace is very special to me is that it was made in Ireland. My ring was not made in Ireland, as most of the rings made there now are very soft gold. My mom searched pretty much every where for a harder karat ring made in Ireland, but was unable to find one she liked.

{This necklace is similar.}

Winter Coats

I know I was just blogging about how it's still sweater weather here in Louisville, and it is, but I'm heading back to the North Shore in a couple of weeks, and I know it will be a rude awakening when i step out of the car.
I've had my eye on this Ralph Lauren jacket as a contender for the birthday list (I'll be 19 in January!) and it's under $125, over 40% off!

All of the coats I've included are on sale right now, (even the J.Crew one with code 'HOLIDAY')!
Which coat is your favorite?

Holiday Season: Griswalding

I simply cannot believe that we've already come to the week of Thanksgiving! My cousins Annie and Rose will be arriving tomorrow to spend the night at Bellarmine, and the rest of my family should be arriving Wednesday. Not including today, I only have 4 days of classes left and my finals before I'm finished with my first semester of college!
I'm so excited to be heading home in only a few short weeks for a lovely 26 day break!
It will be amazing to see all of my friends after months away, and pick out gifts for everyone, and maybe even throw a holiday party!

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays as it serves as the true kickoff to the holiday season. I love watching the parade in the morning, the smell of the turkey and the rolls cooking in the oven, and most importantly, sharing a delicious meal with my family.
One of my favorite memories from the holidays over my life so far has been "griswalding" with my family over Christmas break. If you're unfamiliar with the term griswalding, or if it's actually a word made up by my parents, it's when you drive around at night before Christmas looking at all of the Christmas lights. This is especially fun on the North Shore, because the homes are already so beautiful and historic. The house from Home Alone is only a couple of suburbs away from my house!
I can't wait to go griswalding once I get home!
I hope everyone has a lovely Monday!

Cozy Nights: Christmas Movies

I'm not going to lie to you, I watched Love, Actually a few nights ago, and Elf a few nights before that. I'm not ashamed, the Christmas spirit is alive and well here in my dorm. We've decorated our door with festive glitter snowflakes and have a balsam air freshener keeping our room smelling like a Christmas Tree Farm.
Many of my friends are back home on Thanksgiving break, and it snowed almost a foot on the North Shore this weekend (majorly jealous of that!), so this is the perfect time to snuggle up on your couch and watch a christmas movie!
Shop everything here:

These Christmas movies are some of my favorites and are a wide variety between classics and new favorites!
Of course no movie night is complete without popcorn, and an adorable holiday mug full of your favorite hot drink. My drink of choice? Piping hot coffee! (and of course I'd add some M&M's to go with my popcorn!)

What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

Saturday Shops: What I'm Loving

Hey everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Friday, I can't believe that next Friday is Black Friday and I'll be hitting all the malls up! I hope to create some sort of sale guide, so be sure to check for that late next week!
For now, I thought I'd share some pieces that have been consistently running through my mind lately, many of them on sale!

Maroon and Green Holiday || Outfit of the Day

top - wrap - necklace (similar)
skirt (similar) - pumps

I simply cannot believe how quickly the holiday season is approaching! Next week is Thanksgiving and Christmas is soon after, that means its time for endless events and holiday parties.

I love this look because it is so effortless to throw on, and incorporates my favorite holiday colors.
This blouse is extremely soft, and under $20 from boohoo and is quickly becoming a staple in my fall wardrobe. My velvet skirt was a gift, but I found a similar option here. Velvet and the holidays go hand in hand in my opinion, and this easy skirt is such an easy way to incorporate it into many outfits effortlessly.
My forest green necklace is older, but I found a similar option on etsy that is very affordable! I think that holiday parties are the perfect occasion for statement necklaces, especially very "blingy" or colorful ones!
I also threw on a cream scarf for warmth, and I think that the color really works to pull the outfit together. For shoes, I stuck with a pair of nude pumps. These can go with any outfit in any season and are timeless in my opinion.

Gift Guide: For Her

I feel like women are simultaneously difficult, and easy to shop for. For example, when strapped with time, a simple scarf and bottle of nail polish is a gift that most women would appreciate, but sometimes a generic gift just won't suffice.
I had so much fun putting together this gift guide. It has so many fun pieces in a different price ranges. There are gifts that would be great for your mom, and gifts that are perfect for your niece.

These wine glasses are a must for any "Scandal" fan.
You can never go wrong with a pair of Jack Rogers, or a monogrammed pair of leather gloves.
Pajamas and Uggs would make a fun gift set for your daughter (I have a pair of these and love them as slippers!)

Holiday Dress under $30

This dress from boohoo is on sale, 30% off (with code), making it only $24.50!
I love the colors that it comes in, and I think any of them would be perfect for the holidays! Boohoo also has very quick shipping, so it's sure to be here by the holidays.
30% off ends tonight, but if you're a student, boohoo always has 25% off with your student e-mail!

This neckline is also very flattering, and the scalloped detail makes it even cuter!
Pair it with a great pair of pumps and a cute clutch and you're ready to go!
