{Holiday Gift Guide} Guys

Shopping for guys can be extremely difficult. If you're shopping for a boyfriend (unlike homegirl here #foreveralone), brother, or guy friend, it can be really difficult to find the perfect gift, especially without spending a fortune. Below, I've included gifts in all price ranges, so hopefully it inspires you to go out and finish that holiday shopping!

[also, happy first night of Hanukkah!]

Starter Pack

Hello all! Can we believe there are only 10 days until Christmas?!

Today, I thought I'd share my starter pack that my cousins brainstormed for me this past weekend. If you don't know what a starter pack is, it's exactly what it sounds like: 4 things that are basically you.

You can find me with any or all of these at any given time. It's true.

Also, I started playing Trivia Crack on Friday, and I CAN'T STOP.
Please start a game with me to feed my addiction:

Motivation

For me, I have the hardest time staying motivated this time of year. I'm in the midst of tech week for the dance show at my school, and finals looming (even though my school doesn't take finals until January 18th! wut?). I have trouble eating healthy, studying, working out, and even putting on makeup in the mornings.
I do have some tips on how to stay motivated however!

1.
Get inspired!
Whether you're having trouble blogging, working out, or doing school work, I find that looking through boards on Pinterest can motivate me so much! By finding a role model, I feel much more motivated to work on whatever I should be working on.
My "academic" role models are often my friends, or Pentel from prepofthesouth.tumblr.com

2.
Start.
By starting a project, you may find that whatever you need to work on will take less time then you imagined.

3.
Reward yourself.
Set a goal, and once you reach it, reward yourself! Whether it's with an afternoon Starbucks, or watching an episode of your favorite show on Netflix. One thing my mom always tells me, and I am definitely not the best at, is rewarding yourself AFTER you've completed your task. I often watch the show beforehand, and find myself losing motivation once it's over.

4.
Take small steps.
By taking each project one step at a time, you can take breaks in between and take pride in your small victories.

5.
Use your agenda.
I love organizing my agenda. I think it's so fun everyday to write in my school assignments and shifts for work! You might think it's stressful to look at your agenda and see all of the things you need to do, but I find that having it all written down serves to calm me down because I have a concrete list of things to get done.

{Holiday Gift Guide} BFF

Hey guys! Today's gift guide is directed towards your BFFs. If you're anything like me, you think of 1001 awesome Christmas gifts for your friends throughout the year, and then once you hit December, all of those great ideas have miraculously disappeared from your head. I always have the HARDEST time trying to brainstorm the perfect gifts for my friends, but one thing I know they'll always love is baked goods, Starbucks giftcards, or music. Those never fail. However, I've also compiled a list down below with some creative ideas for your BFFs! Hopefully you'll find something that inspires you!

P.S. Plenty of these gifts would work really well for birthday gifts as well!

Happy shopping!

Also, how ridiculous is this car?! Not that I wouldn't buy it for my kid because I would, but I mean, come on.

5 Holiday Nail Polishes {+ My Christmas Music Playlist}

A twist on my normal Friday 5!
This time of year, aka crazy town dance show insanity, I don't always have the time or option to paint my nails, but once Christmas break begins, I love painting them to coordinate with my outfits and to get me in the holiday spirit!

Below I've featured 5 Essie nail polishes that I think would be perfect for holiday parties. I have the two glitter polishes and absolutely love them. Nail polish is often the perfect way to amp up a sub-par outfit!

Colors in order from left to right:
- Size Matters - Stylenomics - Hors D'oeuvres - Beyond Cozy - Tuck it in my Tux -

___

I didn't think this was long enough a post, so I decided to share with you guys some of favorite Christmas songs!

I'm currently listening to the "Frank Sinatra (Holiday)" Pandora station which I love. I'm a sucker for classic holiday music. It just reminds me of driving through my home town looking at everyone's lights and pine trees covered in snow!

I also love some of the more pop-y songs from the 1960's-1990's including:
Step into Christmas by Elton John
Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon
Last Christmas by Wham!
All I want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey
Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney

(Can be found on this Spotify playlist!)

Those 5 are some of my absolute favorites!

Local radio stations started playing Christmas music some time in early November and let me tell you, I was elated! There's something about hearing your favorite Christmas songs that just give you the best feeling in the world! It truly wouldn't be the holiday season without the music.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Don't forget to keep up with me on Twitter and Instagram!

Holiday Wish-List

Hey everybody! I told you (on twitter- @JojoArrigo) that posts would resume today, and here we are!
I love seeing what everyone is asking for for the holidays (in my case, Christmas) and my family sure has been nagging me about it recently, so I thought I'd share it!

PS: This list encompasses both Christmas and my birthday which is two weeks after Christmas - January 10th!

Check out my more comprehensive list on Pinterest!

iPad - My laptop isn't exactly the newest, so a new toy would be fun, not to mention easier to carry back and forth to school! Of course I would need this Lilly Pulitzer iPad case to go with it!

Starbucks Giftcards - I have a small addiction (read: HUGE) to Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Lattes. Giftcards are always appreciated!

Spirit Jersey - I love this pullover! I think the stripes are a really cute detail that set it apart from typical spirit jerseys! Also: Go Cats!!

Frozen Sing-a-long DVD - I saw this movie last winter and didn't love it, but now I'm kind of obsessed. The sing-a-long version would be perfect for a movie night with friends!

Navy Large Longchamp - With the amount of bags I have, you'd think I would have one with a zip-closure! Longchamps are so versatile and the navy would go with everything.

LL Bean Slippers - It gets pretty cold here in Chicago, so my feet would be very happy to have these. I especially love the red color for the holidays! I also really want a good pair of slippers before I go to college next year!

Monogram Bangle - This would pair so well with my Alex and Ani "Russian Silver" bracelets that I love! Anything monogrammed is always ok in my book!

Camp Socks - These pair so well with leggings and LL Bean boots! They have such cute colors this year too: I love the red and blue!

So,  what's on your wishlist this year? Share down below!

Friday 5

1.
Snaps for me because I put up (what I think to be quality) content everyday this week! I've felt very inspired and have some really awesome posts (imho) coming up!

2.
Can y'all believe that {American} Thanksgiving is next week?! I'm so excited to be attending a Hockey game against my high school's rival benefitting the food pantry as well as driving down to Kentucky late Wednesday night. (See also: Black Friday)

3.
I'm so excited to buy my family's Christmas gifts this year! I have some really cute ones picked out for them and I can't wait to see their faces on Christmas morning as they open them. I feel like Santa Claus! Keep your eyes peeled for more Gift Guides going up in the next few weeks!

4.
It's been quite chilly (like 4˚F) recently in Chicago, so my intake of Hot Cocoa has greatly increased. I'm now on a 2 cup a day regimen. #DrinkingPureSugar. I've also been using an excessive amount of hand cream recently! These two are my favorites:
5.
I'm going to see Mocking Jay pt.1 with Annie tomorrow night, and I've got to say, based on the trailers I've seen, I have very low expectations. The acting looks almost cheesy in a bad way, so I'll let you know my thoughts next week!

*********

Last year, I had done some Friday 5's in which I included a favorite blogger each week. (1-2) This week, we bring it back.
This weeks feature is Dorothy at Prep in Your Step!
I love her original posts! I look forward to reading it every morning. I also love that she's a college student and includes posts about school and organization!

Hope you enjoyed!
Have a great weekend, talk to y'all Monday!

Winter Boots

So. Now it's Thursday, and it's snowed at least two times this week. It's also only November. To add to the mix, the highest temperature we've had so far this week was around 32˚. But enough complaining. That's northing some hats and gloves and a mug of hot chocolate can't fix!

Another essential: Heavy Duty winter boots. Here in Chicago, you WILL NOT survive winter without some type of winter boots. I repeat- will. not. Your toes just may fall off. It a very lucking thing that there are so many cute types of winter boots to choose from this time of year. I opt for the felt LL Bean boots that were limited edition last year (sorry!)

Whether you're in the market to keep warm or just keep the snow out of your socks, you're sure to find a cute pair of boots for this winter. In this post, I've featured boots from LL Bean, Sorel, and Hunter, but there are plenty of other brands out there to choose from.

LL Bean: Lace up - Buckle
Sorel: Tall - Short
Hunter: Tall

And of course, you can never go wrong with a pair of classic Uggs!

Hats, Gloves, & Mittens. Oh My!

This past weekend, we had another round of snow flurries dusting our streets and trees, and don't get me wrong, I love winter and snow and just about everything that comes along with it, one thing I don't love: freezing cold temps as I walk into school in the morning (7am everyday!).

One of my biggest pet peeves? Touching my freezing cold steering wheel when I get in the car every morning. I feel like I need a Lilly Pulitzer steering wheel cover to help me out.
Or, I could just put on a nice pair of cozy gloves or mittens, and of course a color coordinated hat to keep me warm while I'm jamming to my Christmas music on my morning commute.

You tell me: What's your favorite combo?

Hey everyone. The Holiday Season is approaching much to my complete disbelief. I thought I'd start out the gift guide season with Secret Santa gifts. Secret Santa can be hard to shop for, but this guide ranges from $15- $40 so hopefully you'll find something!
I always have the hardest time trying to find a truly great Secret Santa gift, So I wish you the best of luck!

Shades of Blue || Outfit of the Day

Yes. That is snow on the ground. I know. I can't believe it either. I love that it's already snowed a couple of times this year! It just adds to my excitement for the holiday season.

At my high school, we have a handful of late arrivals through out the school year. Aka, the best days ever. When I don't have to be at school until 10am, I usually put a little more effort into my appearance, although sometimes I roll out of bed at 9:30 and show up in workout gear.

This outfit came from one of those days, and I kind of love it.

Light & Fluffy Pumpkin Cake

Hey y'all! I made this cake a few weeks ago inspired by this pin I found, and boy was it delicious!

Cake:
1 - Box Yellow Cake Mix (I used Betty Crocker)
1 -15oz can of Pumpkin (I used Libby's)
Dash of Cinnamon
Dash of Nutmeg

Mix and Spread in two greased 9" cake pans
Bake for 25-30 minutes in a 350˚ oven

***

Icing: (I recommend doubling this)
4oz cream cheese (softened)
2-3 cups powdered sugar
2 Tb softened butter
1 Ts cinnamon

Mix with a hand or standing mixer and spread on cooled cake. I put a thin layer of icing in between the two layers together, as well as a thin layer around the whole cake.

So there you have it.
This cake is D-licious.
If you make this, post a photo and tag me on Instagram! @JojoArrigo

Have a great weekend!

Daily Jewelry

Hello everybody!
In the fall, I find myself reaching for my jewelry pieces more and more often, so today I thought I'd share with you the jewelry that I wear on the day-to-day basis. I obviously don't wear all of this at the same time, but these are the pieces (or similar ones) that I gravitate towards each day!

watch // beaded bracelet // claddagh // earrings (similar to mine & on sale!)  // bangles // monogram

What's next?
I'm thinking this silver bangle would look fantastic next to my Alex and Ani's!

What are your daily jewelry picks?

Feelin' 5 kind of ways: Post- Senior year Homecoming

I think this is a song or a saying or something that people say a lot.

  1. Not hungover- not about that life (just thought I'd establish that)
  2. Like I can't walk. My feet doe. they're definitely not a pretty sight. Like, at all.
  3. Like I need about 14 more hours of sleep
  4. Like I need about 7 extra weeks to apply for college. lol in my dreams.
  5. Like I can't believe that was my last homecoming. like hold on wut???

normal posts to resume tomorrow.

Friday 5

1.
Throwback to last years homecoming:
 #nodates #nobodylikesus

Pretty freaking pumped for this weekend.
Who's excited for the dress reveal?

2.
I found this shirt on CountryClubPrep.com this morning and I think I need it.

3.
I think I'm going to to an OOTD for today's outfit because I'm dressed up in Blue & Gold, but I went SEC tailgate style! Look for that post next week as well as a Homecoming Recap

4.
Can I just say how much I love the song "Highway Don't Care" by Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw.

5.
I wore those ballet flats I talked about a few days ago, and they killed my feet. They were definitely not as comfortable as they seemed :(

I hope everyone had a good weekend!

"Target" Practice.....

Do you see what I did with the title there? Aren't I soo funny? Don't answer that.

I hopped on over to Target (read: tar-jay) last night to "pick up a couple of necessities" and ended up spending a paycheck. Sorry I'm not sorry? It would have been worse. Trust me, I had to refrain from buying quite of few adorable things.

What I did pick up is shown below minus the adorable heeled booties because I really couldn't justify buying them at this very second (that's such a lie I totally justified it, I just felt guilty about buying 3 pairs of black shoes oops) so run, do not walk, to your nearest Target and pick all of this up.

Women's Mossimo Supply Co. Ona Scrunch Ballet Flat • Mossimo • $16.99
Women's Mossimo® Gail Ankle Strap Open Pump • Mossimo • $29.99
Women's Mossimo® Hartley Buckle Strappy Boots - Black • Mossimo • $29.99
Women's Knit Shift Dress • Merona • $24.99

What you can take away from this post: Target is a death trap for your wallet, and mine is on a suicide mission.

Happy Fridayyy

Yay! you've made it to another weekend! Well, technically you'll have to make it to around 4 o'clock today, but hey, we're closer than we were last time I posted!

I'm currently typing this Thursday afternoon at Starbucks and I have already devoured a pumpkin scone and am sipping on a caramel macchiato (a girl can only take so many PSL's ;) I thought I would just take today to reflect on my week! (I suppose we could call this a Friday 5, but I have no idea how many bullet points I'm going to have, so basically it's a free for all)

+ The sunrises I've seen driving to school at the bright and early 6:45 AM are really gorgeous! Although, I wouldn't go as far to say that I'm not looking forward to day light Savings to end in a few weeks.

+ I got a case for my school laptop this week from Amazon.com and have decoated it with an adorable sticker from MarleyLilly.com. It came in the mail the same day and I'm pretty excited about it. All it's missing is a giant glitter monogram and a CountryClubPrep.com sticker and I'm all set!

+I'm in the home stretch of applying to colleges, and you could say that I'm freaking out. This process is unlike anything I've ever gone through. I'd say what's most difficult is the fact that you've never done anything like it before, you trying to navigate it can be sooo hard. I'm trying to have all of my applications in by November first regardless of deadlines, so hopefully I'll be hearing back from schools fairly soon!
P.S. I feel like there should be a support group for seniors applying for college because lemme tell ya: It's a whirlwind.

+Also, can I just put something that's currently rocking my world right now out there: Choosing a college major. Like... wut??!! Since when am I an adult?

+I've worn my Washington D.C. Spirit Jersey that my cousins got me at least twice in the past week (including today) and I"m not even sorry about it. It's literally the best thing ever. I will most definitely be purchasing more in the very near future... especially this Kentucky one!

via

+I haven't been working very hard on my 18 before 18 list and time is ticking! The only things I've crossed off so far are: attend a Major League Sporting Event, and I've read 1/5 books. I need to whoop my booty  into shape!

+Speaking of Shape, my body is definitely not in the best of it. I really want to head to the gym more with my mom and look good for homecoming next week. I haven't exactly been adhering to my meal plan...

+Diet Coke is life.

+Did I mention TGIF yet?

+Thursday my dad woke me up with: "Good morning Jordan!! Happy Throwback Thursday Thursday!" Like dad, who are you?

Well, thanks for bearing with me on this randomest of Fridays! On this weekend agenda, I'm working, teaching religious Ed. Working on College Apps, and attending the Chicago Marathon on Sunday to cheer on my Uncle for his 6th (maybe 7th?) Marathon! Go Uncle Mike!!

Talk to y'all next week :)

Homecoming Dress Picks 2014

Hey everybody!
I know some of you may have already had your homecomings, so I apologize if I've missed you, but my HC is Oct 18th and I'm pretty pumped about it despite the fact that I'm date-less and have zero plans so far -oops- One thing I DO have though is my dress! Now, obviously I'm not going to tell you what dress I've chosen because that would be cray-cray, but I will tell you it's one of the ones I've featured below!
Speaking of: below are some dresses that I've found while looking around that I think are super cute. Plus, they're in a variety of price ranges so you'll probably find something you like! (hopefully)

Which one is your favorite?
Which one do you think I bought?
I hope everyone's having a great week so far!

Dedication

I feel like I need to address my intermittent absence.
Senior year has been really different than the rest of high school so far. I currently have two jobs, and and involved in a lot of activities after school as well. Not to mention the lovely experience of prepping for the ACT in a few weeks and applying for college. Slightly important.

I feel like I haven't been very dedicated to this blog recently and that upsets me. I hope to create a place full of content that people enjoy and would be interested in, but it's proving to be very difficult right now. Absence does not always imply laziness it can imply the lack of inspiration (and time).

I would love to know what you guys feel like reading. I'm really drawing a blank at this time. This blog is going a lot of different places: fashion, lifestyle, fitness etc.

I hop to resume a regular posting schedule in the near future, but I honestly can't make any promises right now. I hope you understand and stick with me for now.

Currently I am......

loving// These shoes. I plan I purchasing them in the next couple of weeks. I feel like they will be such a fall staple for me this year! I've also been wearing my Everette Field Jacket a ton recently. It's been pretty chilly here in Chicago and has definitely been coming in handy!

P.S. If anybody has a really nice (reasonably priced) quilted jacket that they like, let me know by messaging me on tumblr or hmu on twitter! @jojoarrigo.

eating// with the exception of my lunch yesterday: no hamburgers, fries, or pop (although technically I suppose that's a beverage). I've decided to try and be nicer to my body by not feeding it a ton of crap all of the time.

listening to// "Take me to Church" by Hozier, "House of Gold" by Twenty One Pilots, & "Lazeretto" by Jack White. These songs are pretty great if you ask me.

working// a lot more than I used to. I'm now working two jobs, my sterilizing job and also hostessing at a local restaurant. I really enjoy working there and talking to all the people that come in. My wallet doesn't mind the second job either ;)

reading// Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (by JK Rowling). As a part of my 18 before 18, I've started re-reading the Harry Potter series. (slowly but surely) I think this is the 3rd of 4th time I'm reading the first book and it's basically amazing.

writing// 1001 college admissions and supplemental essays. I'm basically going insane.

searching for// the perfect Homecoming dress (and date ;) boys hmu) I'll probably do a post on my top choices like last year, and then reveal which one I wore after the dance! #FUN

what have you guys been loving?
comment down below, i'd love to know!
