Friday 5

1.
I am BEYOND excited because football season is upon us my friends. College football starts up this saturday (*Roll Tide*) and my schools football season starts tonightttt! Football = The best part of the entire school year. You could say I'm excited. (I've also been waiting to debut my navy chevron bow ;)

2.
I've been on a teaching kick recently where I've been considering it once again as a profession. I go through these phases often. I teach religious education during the school year and It's almost time for it to start back up again!
Last Years Class after we made pillows for a local hospital!

3.
This week I've been loving wearing my hair a littl emore wavy. Since I naturally ahve very staright hair, I just throw it in braids when it's still damp from the shower, and when I wake up in the morning, I blast them with a hot hairdryer for a few seconds, and taa-daa wavy hair!

4.
I've been missing dance a lot recently, and boy-oh-boy am I excited for my school dance group and studio classes to start up! They help me stay in shape and are so much fun!

5.
Okay, so I've been had a bit of a Jeep fetish this week, which is not surprising considering probably 20% of the senior class at my school drives Jeeps. They're just so much fun, and I grew up with my dad driving Jeep Grand Cherokee's so I would love to one day own one. (I don't however, love the gas milege lol)

Also I'm going to be featuring a Blogger I've been loving each Friday 5 and today's Blogger is Jamie at Southern-Simplicity.org

Go check her blog out! I'm sure You'll love it!!

Fall T.V. Shows.

It's no secret that I'm slightly addicted to t.v. I love all different types of shows, and can't wait for a few to start back up again this fall.

Here are some of my favorites. (some are already on, and some don't come on until later this fall)

  • Breaking Pointe (Dance show) -The CW
  • The Vampire Diaries- The CW
  • Elementary- CBS
  • The Big Bang Theory- CBS
  • The Originals- The CW
  • The Vineyard- ABC Family
  • Bachelor Pad- ABC
  • The Amazing Race- CBS
Okay, maybe that's a little much, but I really love T.V. and I can't wait until a few of these shows start up again. I will, of course, still watch House M.D. when it;s on, and Gossip Girl on Netflix.

What fall T.V. show can you not wait to start?

Junior Year: First Impressions.

Wednesday (the 21st) was my first day of Junior year. It's crazy to think that I'm closer to being a Freshman in college than in 8th grade! I'm really excited for this year (mostly football season) but I'm also feeling slightly nervous. My Lilly Agenda is filling up fast with various assignments and upcoming assessments, but that's what junior year is all about, being busy. Right?

It's safe to say that I had the worst "first day of school" in my life this year, but I managed to manipulate my consuleur, god bless him, into changing around my schedule. Again.
My Schedule is as follows:
1-Ap United States History
2- Spanish 3
3- Junior English
4- Honors Physics
5- Lunch
6- Pre-calculus and Discrete mathematics
7- Adventure Ed. (Gym Class)
8- Forensics!!!!

So far, I'm really loving APUSH, despite the borderline insane workload, and forensics, because I'm obsessed with Elementary.

What are your favorite classes this year?

Buttercup's Bookshelf

Hey everybody, how are ya doin?

This blog post will be introducing a new series here on my blog called Buttercup's Bookshelf. In these posts I will be reviewing, hauling, and talking about books! (although, you probably already knew that based on the title of this post ;)

To start out, I thought I would include my GoodReads link! If you add me as a friend, you can see what books I'm reading, have read, and want to read! If you add me as a friend, I can see yours as well!

I also thought I would share the list of books that I'm currently reading:
beware, it's ridiculously long because I haven't had much time to read recently :/

  • Cities of Gold, Douglas Preston (I'm reading this for school)
  • The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • Decision Points, George W. Busch
  • Divergent, Veronica Roth
  • The Host, Stephanie Meyer
Comment down below and recommend some books for me!! I also think there's a way to do that on GoodReads!!

Until Next Time

Lessons Learned

Here are some lessons I've learned in the last week that I would love to share with you.

  • Don't go school supply shopping the day that school starts. Everybody and their mother, literally, will be at staples getting their school supplies too. That being said, I'm probably going to do it again next year but hey, I didn't say I was applying these lessons to my life did I?
  • Start your homework on saturday or friday. Even if it's just 5 pages of history reading and your 1 sheet of physics homework, do it. It won't take that long.
  • Don't leave your summer reading assignment until the day before school starts. Really, don't, it was not fun.
  • I'm quite possibly allergic to band-aid adhesive due to the fact that when I cut myself shaving last weekend, I put a band aid on and have a skin irritation in the shape of a band aid on my right ankle. TMI, sorry I'm not sorry. (I know it's not latex because I wear latex gloves at work and these were latex free band aids.)
  • Don't change your schedule half-way through your first day of school. You miss more material than you think.
  • Lilly Pulitzer iPad cases do not fit Samsung Chromebooks.
  • Taking notes in spanish on your laptop is 1,000 times easier than trying to write it all down.
I do believe that's for today.

Friday 5

1.
The fact that I'm a junior is completely baffling to me! I think it's really starting to hit home now that I've begun classes. Wish me luck this year! That being said, you can probably expect blog posts to go back to being every 3 days instead of 2 due to the rather tedious courseload I have...

2.
What ever ridiculously (comparatively) hawt weather Chicago is having right now can stop. I don't particularly enjoy sweating as I walk through the school or while I eat lunch outside.

3.
I just bought all my school supplies for this year and managed to spend almost $100. Are you suprised? Probably not. A good amount of this was spent on post-it notes. Sorry I'm not sorry?

4.
I've been obsessed with pale pink nail polish recently, and I finally bought one from Ulta, (review coming soon) and I painted my nail with it last night, and honestly, I'm not loving it. I don't really think it works with my skin tone. Maybe it's just the time of year though?

5.
I've been loving Elle Fowler's Blogs and Videos recently. I loved watching her Vlogmas which I never kept up with during christmas, and her blog are just THE cutest. Who's your favorite blogger of the moment??? Comment down below and tell me! I'm always looking for new blogs!!

Back To School: Odds and Ends

Today's my first day of Junior Year yay!

Hey guys, today's post is going to be all about odds and ends related to going back to school!

Water Battle: There are two routes to go here, actual water bottle, or tumbler. I LOVE the Lilly Pulitzer tumbler in Chin Chin. I love the pink and green colors. So adorable!

I also had a Camelbak that I bought at my schools book store last year (and then continued to loose oops!)

Lastly, there're Nalgene. I think these are really cool, especially when you put stickers on them and stuff. They're personally not my favorite because there's no straw and you have to drink out of it like a cup.

KeyChains and Lanyards: These are essential for keeping your keys looking cute and your backpack looking special!

I love these keychains for throwing on your wallet or backpack! They're so cute and different from the typical keychain.

I really like this monogrammed keychain! I think it would like so cute on a plain backpack.

At my school, you keeping your keys on a lanyard is basically protocol. I love this Louisville one. Go Cards! I got a shorter one to keep my little school wallet on, which brings me to my next point!

ID Holder/ Wallet: I don't think it's really necessary to bring your full wallet to school, I like to bring just a little ID holder. I use a Lilly Pulitzer Zip-It wallet which they sadly no longer sell, but It's perfect for what I need it for!

A sort of similar concept is the Vera Bradley ID holder. I have 3 of these in various prints, and I think they're great for bringing to school with just a couple dollars, Your ID and License.

I think it's also fun to get a cute accessory fro your laptop or ipad. I'm getting a Chromebook from my school with a new program and really want to get the Lilly Pulitzer ipad/netbook case but I'm not sure it's going to fit. :( And in case you can't already tell, I love the Chin Chin print :)

Spirit Wear: I LOVE spirit wear. Whenever our Pep Club is selling shirts and such, I'm always soooo tempted to buy the shirts. It's actually a problem.  This summer, I got a navy blue chevron bow to wear with my spirit wear to football games and on spirit days, and heck, why not any other day?!

I'm also planning on getting a Quarter Zip Sweatshirt in Navy with a Gold monogram to go with our school colors. I think it will be my perfect staple item for this football season, of course paired with my new bow!

Thanks for reading!!

Back to School: Book Bags

Hey Guys! In today's post, I'll be talking all about book bags!

There are two options to carry your books: Backpack or Tote bag.

Personally, I've always gone the Backpack route, whenever I use a tote bag, I usually end up throwing all of my crap into it and it basically becomes a black hole. If you're not that type of person, then I really love the Vineyards Vines totes as well as Longchamp and, of course, a classic monogrammed tote!

If you go the back pack route, North Face backpacks are an extremely popular choice at my school, If you want a more fashionable route, There are a bunch of adorable suede fringe backpacks out there! My personal favorite, Patagonia. I have a patagonia backpack that I got last year is super cute, and I will be continuing using it this year!

What kind of backpack do you use?

Back To School: Planners

I don't know about you guys, but I need a planner to keep my life in check. From assignments to work to dance classes to hanging out with my friends, life can get a little hectic, so I like to have a planner to organize my life!

I Love the Lilly Pulitzer agenda's. I used one last year and am super excited to be using another one this year!
Here's a comparison of the two agenda's. This years is on the left and it is the Large size($28). Last year I used the smaller agenda ($17) on the right. The small agenda was fine, but I think that the Larger one will be necessary for me being Junior year and all.

I use tabs to have easy access to useful pages. I keep mine on the Week it is, the month it is, and the next month. That way, it's easy to write down assignments that I get.

This is a page from this years agenda. Not too full yet, but It's still early.

For the school year, I like to color code my agenda. Each class gets a color and other activities get colors as well. I try and keep to the color coding, but a lot of the time it just gets messed up.

For the months that are in the agenda, I like to write down the things that are going on each day, but I don't write down the times, just the event. I like the larger agenda for this because the monthly calendar is so much larger than the small agenda.

I've seen a lot of cute agenda's this year everywhere from Target to Maybooks or Erin Condren! Whatever your price range, you're sure to find an agenda you love!

Back to School: Essentials- Accessories

My Last Post was all about Back to School Clothes, so I thought that my next one should be all about accessories I think are necessary for school. Now, what I think is necessary and what most people think is necessary is very different. But without further ado!!!!
  • Bows: I love bows. I think they just add a little bit of preppiness and cuteness to your outfit. I just got a navy chevron bow which will be absolutely PERFECT for football games and spirit days!
  • Pearls: Pearls, whether earrings or a necklace, they add class to any outfit, well, most outfits, and when paired with a bow; Perfection.
  • Monogram Necklace: The perfect way to top off any outfit, they also add a nice personalized touch to your look!!
  • Rain Boots: I love the black glossy Hunters pictured above, and am seriously considering splurging on them, but I do love my red and Navy Ralph Lauren one's that I already have. If you live anywhere where it rains a lot (Chicago) I would highly recommend investing in a pair of rain boots!
  • Scarves: Y'all don't even want to know how many scarves I have. Its an addiction. It's all people ever buy me too! Over the course of Christmas and my birthday, I think I received at least 5 scarves this year! You can literally wear them with anything!
  • Stylish Gym Shoes: I have Tiffany blue Keds and I got a ton of use out of them this spring. I love the way they looked with skirts and dresses, and they matched perfectly with some of my Lilly stuff! I also love the converse pictured above! They're great to wear with flare or bootcut jeans!
  • Everyday Bracelet: If you have a bracelet you wear everyday, you'll always look polished. This one from Tiffany's and would look just as cute with Norts as it would with Lilly!
  • Gym Shoes: You need supportive gym shoes for gym class and working out. You'll regret wearing anything else.
  • Riding Boots: If you purchase one thing for this school year, I'd say you need riding boots. They are the most perfect style of shoe, I can't even explain how much I love them. They come in a wide price range as well from tens of dollars to hundreds depending on your budget.
Hope Y'all enjoyed!

Back To School: Essentials- Clothing

Happy 100th Post!!!!!! Thanks for staying along for the ride!

I think we all know that during the school year, it's hard to make an effort to look good, but with a few key pieces, it's easy to get ready in a hurry! I also did a post about a year ago about Outfit Planning which is a great help when you need to get ready for school quickly in the morning.

1-Long Cardigans: These are perfect for throwing on with a pair of leggings or skinny jeans. I have a orangey-brown colored sweater from forever 21 that is perfect for lounging around in the fall.

2-Leggings: I'm not the biggest fan of wearing leggings as pants, but lets face it, we all do it once in a while. They look great paired oxfords or popovers and sweaters alike!

3-Skinny Jeans: Everyone needs their perfect pair of skinny jeans. They look perfect tucked into riding boots, but also look classy with a cute pair of flats!

4-Polo Shirt: I know it's not everybody's taste, but I love throwing on one (usually from the Boy's section) with some pearls and I'm good to go.

5-Rain Jacket: I, obviously, love the monogrammed ones and would love a Navy one from MarleyLilly.com. They're perfect for running from the parking lot to the doors and great for football games too! Especially if you get one in your school colors.

6-3/4 Zip Sweatshirt: These are great for running around town. Whether your jetting off to your sports practice or in my case, dance class, or running to Target, because let's face it, who isn't obsessed with Target? I'm currently contemplating whether I should get a navy quarter zip with a gold monogram to wear to football games, or a plain navy Vineyard Vines Shep Shirt. Decisions decisions!

7-Basic Camisoles: Cami's are a necessary item for any girl. They're perfect for layering under sweaters and oxfords.

8-Skirt: I, personally, love wearing skirts and dresses to school. The one pictured above from J.Crew is great, for spring and summer, and I always find adorable ones at gap such as this one. I forsee a post solely dedicated to skirts.

9-North Face Jacket: I wear my North Face almost every day to school once it starts to get chilly out. It keeps me warm in my freezing cold school, and although its not the most stylish piece of clothing, It's definitely on my most worn list.

10- Long Sleeve Shirts: Whether it's an oxford or just a plain long sleeve tee, they're super versatile. Throw it under a sweater or pair it with a colorful scarf and you've got yourself an outfit!

Look for more Back to School posts coming up this month!

Coffee Coffee Coffee

I don't know about you all, but i never turn down the opportunity to have a Starbucks. Whether it's 30˚C or 100˚. I thought I'd just share a quick post about my favorite drinks from Starbucks, of which most make me sound super high maintenance.
via

Non-Fat Decaf (sometimes) Caramel Macchiato
I love this drink hot or cold. It's really great iced because you get to shake it up and mix up the caramel, milk, and coffee. YUM!

Iced Tazo Passion Tea Lemonade, Sweetened
This stuff is so good! Better yet, I know how to make it at home,
I suppose I could write a post on that in the future!

Non-Fat Pumpkin Spice Latte
These are so great in the fall. The smell and the taste always remind me of pumpkin pie on thanksgiving.

What do you order at Starbuck? Tell me down below in the comments!

13

There are 13 days until school starts for me on August 21st. I'm apprehensive, but also exited to be starting my Junior year. This is the year for me, I can already feel it.

I've already set out a few goals for myself this year.
  • Surprise people. Whether that means acing tests in spanish or surprising my classmates by letting them see my true colors, i want to surprise people.
  • Have at least a 4.0 average this year (on a scale of 5.0) That means A's in all my regular courses and at least B's in all of my Honors/ AP courses.
  • Buy a Car. I've talked about this in previous posts, but I've really become serious about saving up for a car. You best believe I want to be pulling in to school in my own car some time this year.
  • Get Fit. I'm not the most healthy person. Yes, I'm fairly slim, but I'm definitely not in the best shape. This year my goal is to get to more dance classes, and the gym a little, okay a lot more often. I really enjoy working out and I hope to carve out more time this year to exercise!
  • Procrastinate Less. This is literally my biggest downfall when it comes to school. I usually end up spending the whole night on my computer and not working as hars as I could on my school work, so this year, it's time to buckle down.
What are your goals for this school year?
